床 前 明 月 光 ,
疑 是 地 上 霜 。
举 头 望 明 月 ,
低 头 思 故 乡 。

Bright moon light in front of the bed,
Thought it was frost on the ground.
Lift up my head and see the bright moon.
Lower my head and miss my home...

李 白
Li Bai

Can you read or write Mandarin? The English part was translated by me with a little fix in English from my teacher. Feel free to use it next time.

Is Li Bai a better poet or Shakespear a better poet? I believe Li Bai is the better poet.
PostPosted: Wed May 23, 2007 11:52 am
...ahhhhh.

The style is too different to compare.

English poetry tends to have more subtleties and nuances and wordplay and double meanings, but Chinese tends to be more 大气, if that makes any sense.

I'm an Eng Lit student, have to stick with Shakespeare on this one.. s'ry. xD

lol.
i'm currently studying romeo and juliet.
Our teach let us watch the 1968 version and the leonardo di caprio one.
and the 1968 one was nicer (:
aye. reminds me of 红楼梦。

@Niphz Yes, they are from two very different cultures. The language of English and Chinese 是 一 天 一 地 。
Li Bai is more 浪 漫 主 义 。

@Kjingle I never read 红 楼 梦 and Romeo Juliet before. I have read 三 国 演 义 , 西 游 记 。 Maybe I will read them someday. I like to read 武 侠 小 说 。
