The books were okay. You can tell that he was inspired by J.R.R, though.
(And I disliked the movie; pretty much 90 minutes of a bad actor thats trying to act emo.)

Inspired? stare Might as well say that Melkor did what he did because he was inspired by Eru.

You can't top Galad on this, Master of the Frogs.

Gally, is reknown for his displeasure over the Inheritance series.

You know, froggy, you remind me very much of a certain someone else who wears a lot of green.

O man. I read Eragon and Eldest, and I have Brisingr. And I have to say- there are a LOT of similarities between those books and LotR. A large amount of them are on the map. I'm going to open up Brisingr and post some random location names...

Beirland (reminds me STRONGLY of Beleriand)
Utgard (The lovechild of Isengard and Utumno)
Isenstar (A lake south of the above mountain "Utgard". Coincidence? NO.)
Farthen Dur (Dur is a word for "dark" in Tolkien's Sindarin)
Gil'ead (reminds me of a certain Elvenking *cough* Gil Galad)
Eldor (Eldar, anyone?)

And those are just some of the names on the map. It can't be denied that Paolini totally stole stuff from the awesomer and better Tolkien. However, Paolini's writing style is simpler and so are his plots. I can't blame him for being inspired by Tolkien, but it pisses me off when I see that he copied and skewed things from him.

Galad, that's an amazing comparison- Eru and Melkor to Tolkien and Paolini!

Don't forget Uden (Udun, Flame of Udun)
Illium (Illuin, one of the Lamps of the Valar)
and Melian (Melian, of course)

I was just looking at the map. Is Melian a person in Inheritance? I haven't opened those books in a long time.

Nah, they're all on the map. Melian's a city, I think.

He probably just went through the index in the back of Unfinished Tales and said, "ooh, look, Melian, that's a good name for a city...."
