Donovan raised a hand in farewell, watching her leave. He only moved once she was no longer in sight. Sighing, he walked over to the door and closed it before returning to his bathroom and closing that door as well. He didn't take long in the shower. He never did. He didn't want to dwell, to risk seeing those tell-tale scars that reminded him of his time in his own personal Hell. Once he was clean enough, he turned off the water and got out, quickly drying off and wrapping the towel around his waist. He stepped out of the bathroom, walking over to his closet. Opening the door, he pulled out a suit. It was not new and was actually secondhand. He glared at the suit before reluctantly changing into it, muttering angrily under his breath. Once he was finally dressed, he grabbed the towel and dried to dry his hair even more before going back into the bathroom ad looking in the mirror, trying to tame his hair.

Elizabeth walked up to Donovan's door and placed her ear on his closed door, listen for running water. Not hearing anything, she stepped away figuring he was getting dressed so she made her leave and headed down the stairs. When she got to the end of the steps she leaned against the wall that faced to stairs, waiting for Donovan.

Donovan glanced away from the mirror when he heard the sound of footsteps retreating. He frowned, wondering how he hadn't heard them approach. Annoyed with himself, he quickly finished his hair before leaving the bathroom and then his bedroom. He paused just outside his room, inhaling deeply. He caught the scent of Elizabeth and followed it. Pausing at the top of the stairs, he looked around and blinked, trying to figure out what was real and what was the result of his medication. Shaking his head and letting out an annoyed hiss, he descended the stairs, coming to a stop beside her.

Elizabeth looked at him carefully as she brushed a small lock of her hair away from her face. "You going to be okay?" she asked him as she noticed a slight daze along with a small annoyance in his look.

Donovan blinked and shook his head when Elizabeth spoke. "Me? Oh yeah, I'll be fine," he said. "as soon as the hallucinations go away." The sound of someone approaching made him look up. He watched as a servant walked up to them. "Pardon me, sire, but your mother requests you and the lady meet her in the, eh, meeting room. I assume you know what she means?" Donovan nodded. He knew where the meeting room was. To Elizabeth, he asked, "Ok, you can see him too, right?" He wanted to make sure he wasn't taking instructions from air.

Elizabeth watched the servant then looked over at Donovan as he asked a question directed to her. "Oh yea, right." she said with a small smile. "Lets get going before your mother comes searching for us or something." she mummbled with a half hearted chuckle.

Donovan smiled weakly at Elizabeth's words. It actually would not surprise him if his mother did that. Under the current circumstances, he wouldn't put anything past her. "Follow me," he said before leading her away from the stairs. He walked down one of the halls, this one much darker than the others since it had no windows. The walls were bare and the doors plain. Leading her past several twists and turns, he finally came to a stop outside one particular door. He didn't bother knocking before entering. Inside, the room was sparse, containing nothing except a few chairs and a table. On the opposite side of the table as the door stood his mother and an older man in a suit. He reminded Donovan of a lawyer.

Elizabeth followed him quietly, looking at the plainess of the halls and doors. As they entered the room she looked around briefly before her eyes locked onto the man in a suit. She looked him over as she wondered who he was; or better what was he doing there.

Donovan glanced from the man to his mother. He knew what this was all about, he just hoped Elizabeth didn't hate him. She probably would. "Let's get this over with, shall we?" He forced himself not to flinch at the ice in his mother's voice. Instead, he let all emotion slip away. At least for now. "We might as well," he said flatly. "No sense in delaying the inevitable." She nodded to the man beside her who opened the briefcase he held, pulling out an envelope and setting it on the table. Donovan opened it up and slid out the paper. Sighing to himself, he skimmed over the words before nodding. The man handed him a pen and Donovan signed it before passing both the pen and paper to Elizabeth. The fact was, the kingdom needed a king and no man could assume the throne without a wife. It was their custom, within the royal family, that should the current king die childless, his wife would be passed on to his younger brother. It was not sexist as most thought, since the same thing would happen if the queen were to die. Her younger sister would marry the king and become queen. What Elizabeth held in her hands was a kind of marriage. Since they couldn't find Theo's body, they had no way of knowing for sure that he was dead. So, the document simply said that she and Donovan were married until a point that proof was found that Theo was still alive in which case her marriage to Donovan would be rendered void.

Elizabeth took the paper and pen into her hands and read over what the paper said. Her eyes widened as she read father down until the paper and pen feel from her hands grip and onto the floor. Her eyes shot up to the others her eyes filled with hatred and sadness. "I am not signing this paper." she said simply before she turned and began to make her way toward the door.

Donovan sighed deeply, hearing Elizabeth's words. How may times had he told himself those same things since Theo's death? ...Never. He knew it would be pointless trying to go against his mother's wishes. She would make his life Hell if he refused. He heard the door slam shut behind him, making him assume a guard had been posted outside the door in case something like this happened. For all her good qualities, his mother knew how to manipulate people to her will. "Yes, you are," his mother said. "It is the custom of a culture that you willingly married into."

Elizabeth turned around sharply and glared at her. "No I will not, and that is my final." she said in a tone as calm as she could make as her anger flared higher. She did not want to fight with her as she was her family, but she did not want to be given off to someone else as if she was a possesion. She was not going to have it.

A low growl reached Donovan's ears, making him glance over at his mother. He watched her through empty eyes. It was very rare that his mother growled. She normally didn't need to. Since his father's death, their family had been matriarchal. "Yes, you will, or I will make you." It had been a long time since he'd heard his mother threaten anyone. But, again, she normally didn't need to. "After all-." "There must be an heir." His words sounded numb and mechanical, even to his own ears. And he was painfully aware that those were the same words Theo had used over and over again. The thought of his brother made his throat constrict and he silently prayed this wouldn't go on much longer. He could feel the numbness of Theo's death starting to wear off and he didn't want to break down right there. Elizabeth may have been fine with crying in front of people but he wasn't.

Elizabeth looked from Mary to Donovan as he spoke. Her frowned deepened at his voice, making her stomach twist in knots even more than they already were. She felt as if she was going to puke. She looked back to the mother and said one word, flat and heartless. "Fine."
