Seto couldn't help but smirk at Jounouchi's flat out request to see if Seto could kill someone. 'Well, part of being exceptionally wealthy is I didn't necessarily anticipate taking care of anything on my own,' he replied bluntly. If Jounouchi saw no reason to beat around the bush he wouldn't either. 'However,' he continued, 'it's no great certainty that this will be something we can plan. We may have to face this individual and who can say what one will do in the heat of the moment. Moreover, getting rid of the spirit could potentially end up requiring such an act to be the action of the victim. What if we do prove Hirutani our culprit, and what if the only way to be rid of this spirit required you to do the deed? If you didn't have the option of thrusting the task on me or anyone I might employ, if it came down to kill or be killed, what would you do then?'
((I think I tend to come as INTJ as well, though I'm very in the middle on most of those, except for judging vs perceiving I usually land right by my J. I don't do small talk well for that similar reason, it doesn't feel sincere to have a conversation that feels like going through the motions. I don't mind repeating myself on things that I think/feel as long as it's not to the same person over and over again. If I feel like it's a new discussion, even if it's because I'm talking to a different person then I can find merit and enjoyment in it. However, 'how is your day' type of generic stuff is not my cup of tea. I feel little purpose. You don't really get to know anything about anyone in that. Generally with strangers you are assessing tone but I guess these days I'm not looking to meet new people so much so I need a particular topic to feel grounded, if I have a topic then that's okay.))

Jounouchi was silent as he considered. He had been put into situations that were seemingly kill or be killed before. But he'd always managed to find a way out that kept everyone alive. Yeah, he'd had to hurt people a lot of times. That he didn't have a problem with. But killing someone... damn Kaiba for not giving him the easy way out of this. He knew what the answer was, he just hated to admit it, that it might come to this.
"...I'd kill..." he finally said, voice barely above a whisper. Not for himself or his own survival. He knew it was stupid, valuing even an enemy's life above one's own, but that was something Jounouchi was never able to change about himself. He was a hero at heart, willing to lay himself down for a cause, a person, or even just to give an enemy the chance of redemption. It wasn't something he toted or bragged about. He hadn't even been aware of it himself until he'd faced so many threats with his involvement with Yuugi. But this was different. Normally, the self-sacrifice would save other people, but in this case, it would only hurt his loved ones. So he chose kill.
((I used to be almost 100% INTJ in everything, but I've changed a lot as I've matured. I took the test back in the beginning of high school and had super high scores in it, but took the test again a few months back, aware of how much I'd changed and wondering if I might be a different personality type now, but still got INTJ, just with more mid-ranged scores.
But yeah, I do prefer retelling people the same thing over 'how was your day' stuff, but in the form of chatting, that seems less sincere to me, probably because I don't know anything about this person and don't have an invested interest in them, nor in telling them about myself.))

Seto smirked, 'of course you do, but that's irrelevant. You'll never know what you'll do in a situation until your in it. This conversation wasn't about deciding what we'd do, it was about ascertaining how committed you are to finding a way out of this mess.'
((I guess up until recently when I've been really stressed and bitter and antisocial I have more of invested interest in getting to know people so I've more of an interest in seeing if their is potential in an invested interest.))

Jounouchi tensed, not quite gritting his teeth, but more opening his mouth in a small snarl at Kaiba. He had really done some soul-searching there and made himself vulnerable to Kaiba, and the other had just been misleading him, "Well you should've just said that from the beginning!" he huffed, looking away, "I'm just as committed as you are. We've both been doing everything we can to stop this." he turned back to Kaiba, "And there's more to getting out of this than just wanting to enough. We need to work together on this, and if that's the case, you need to start having some confidence in me. I'm not as useless as you've always told me." his eyes were daggers as he stared challengingly at Kaiba.
((Haha, I feel like I already have too many casual friends and Gaia buddies. Not really looking for anymore of those, just one or two super close people. And that's something that's pretty difficult to find online. I mean, you're like my best online-only friend and I love talking to you, but it's just not the same when you can't hang our and do things together, you know?))

'Down boy,' Seto said, albeit gently and without malice, 'this wasn't about not trusting you or making you vulnerable. If I said that from the beginning you wouldn't have thought about this the same way, and you did need to think about it. This isn't about commitment, but you are very much act first and think second. We are not in a situation where that approach is necessarily going to work. I mean if you really decided there is no way you could see killing this gang leader even if he deserved it and it would save your family, if you felt you couldn't live with yourself, well we'd need to make sure to not explore options that will inevitably take us down that path. You needed to decide what you could handle as the worst case scenario, and if I told you this was in exercise in doing that you wouldn't have searched into what you as a person were capable of, you'd have answered how you want this situation to go. You want the trigger not to be pulled, or you want me or someone else to have to be the one to pull it. You needed to at least think about what it meant for you to pull the trigger without being in control of the situation.'
((Haha, I know what you mean. You and Karma are not only my closest online-only friends you are in a minority of online-only. So I guess I don't feel too burdened by the idea of having more because I don't have many, being able to talk to you and Karma without having known you in person has been a rare thing for me and it's been very nice. However it's definitely good to have friends that you can hangout with and I definitely wouldn't want to stack my friendships to more online ones than offline ones. I'd feel less motivated to create more casual Gaia buddies if I had several.))

Jounouchi tensed more at the 'down boy' comment, about to go into an even angrier rant, but was placated as Kaiba's neutral tone registered, and his words continued. He went silent as he listened, in all honesty, touched at the consideration. Even though Kaiba was only doing it out of strategy and caution, the fact that he was able to have that much insight into Jounouchi and not use it as cannon fodder, well... that was a big step up.
He finally let out a heavy sigh, calm now, "...alright, okay... that makes sense." he admitted quietly, slumping in his seat.
((I tend to end up with a lot more online friends since I roleplay so much. >_o I just recently cleaned out a bunch I don't talk to anymore, and I still have too many. But they're all just casual, mostly just there for the roleplays. I've never become as close to or as personal with anyone besides you and Sara.))

'Yes well, I tend to make a great deal of sense if you wait more than 30 seconds before deciding to bite my head off,' Seto joked, kindly, 'although I guess given our history I'm not exactly owed such consideration.'
((Yea I wanted to use Gaia to roleplay but I never really managed to figure out how to get them set up with people I don't know. Other than this one and that chat one most of the ones I had been in were set up by Sara/Sara's friends and even before we fell out they kind of just got abandoned or people in the rp fell out with one another and quit. Part of why I don't think I'd go for a group roleplay again - other than something plotless like that chat thing, and even then only as a silly boredom thing with friends probably. Not something I'd expect staying power on - as I've had no luck with that. I had a few people that I met on here and tried to get things going with but nothing ever really started. Most of my 'friends' on here are people who don't even use Gaia anymore (most of them I know offline) but I don't have enough contacts on here to really bother deleting people. I'd probably be less lost about how to start that up finally but I just really don't have time for more than the one we have. Mostly though I just have no ideas for anything I want to do. We'll see how I feel when I finish this PhD, it probably does deserve more of my attention than it gets. Too many jobs and fringe-PhD stuff that will look great on my CV but only if I actually finish the thesis. xd ))

Jounouchi managed a small snort and a smile at that, looking at Kaiba, "You've got that right." he paused, considering, "...I'll try to stop jumping to conclusions about you... as long as you stop giving me reasons to jump to 'em. We'll probably get more done and figure things out better if we're not always at each other's throats, after all... deal?"
((Generally to find roleplay partners, I just join a guild in a fandom I want to roleplay in that has active members who seem to RP. Apparently a lot of people also do it in the roleplay forums, but I prefer guilds, since it let's you talk to and hang out with different people from the fandom for a while before you decide if you want to try roleplaying with them. I tend to stick more to one-on-one these days, as group ones always seem to die pretty quickly, since one or two people inevitably stop posting, and then everyone else sits there waiting around for them. Sometimes one-on-one partners just stop posting too, but it's not as common. I am in one giant group one right now though, but it works a little better because the entire guild is there for nothing but the giant roleplay. And when people stop posting, you have other characters you can still respond with in different threads, and the captain will send announcements reminding people to post, or that we're going to time skip to get things moving with active users, when things get slow. The only thing that sucks is when people playing main characters just stop posting, and suddenly the main characters aren't involved in any of the plot. But anyway, that's my advice for maybe once you finish your PHD, if you find yourself having more of a roleplay itch. I also always have story ideas floating around, so if you ever just want to start a second one with me, let me know. XD But definitely focus on the PHD first, especially that thesis!))

Seto rolled his eyes, but stuck out his hand and said 'fine, truce, at least until we aren't victims of a shared haunting.'
((Yea I've been pretty unlucky. I joined a few guilds a couple of years ago with that purpose, and they had active people but nobody responded on the threads I posted on or just didn't really respond to me. I didn't make great efforts though, because again I do have a harder time starting up conversations from nothing which I guess my own experience having a hard time making convos in a new group is what motivates me to try and be responsive. Guess we'll see how things go when I'm finished with my PhD and maybe I'll make more of an effort and see what ideas you have kicking around.))

Jounouchi nodded in satisfaction, smiling lightly as he said, "Deal."
Shortly after, they arrived at the shrine that was their destination. It was small, and didn't seem to attract too many patrons. There was a girl in a priestess robe on her hands and knees, scrubbing stone floor. She had tied her hakama and sleeves off so they wouldn't get wet. She overall looked like a normal priestess... until you got to her head. Her face didn't have the elegance that priestesses often exhibited, instead being wide-eyed and childish. Her dull brown hair was cropped short, gel running through it to give it a spikey look. She looked up when their vehicle pulled near, doing a double take when she saw how fancy it was.
((Sounds like a plan. Too bad your attempts haven't worked out too well, though that is pretty common with how flaky people can be. More often than not I wouldn't find a roleplay partner on a first attempt.))

Seto hesitated before getting out of the car, trying not to feel overly contemptuous toward what appeared to be a punk child rather than a respectable priestess. 'Well, given our luck what do you want to bet that's her?' Seto asked, 'guess she couldn't be any worse than the last guy.'
((I think I only just realised I can edit other people's posts! I assume that's part of being VC because I swear I didn't always have that option. Haha, weird. I accidentally hit edit on your post rather than reply and then just stared at the screen in confusion for awhile. xd ))

Jounouchi frowned as he looked at the girl, looking back to Kaiba questioningly, "...what's wrong with her? She seems normal to me. And hey, she's actually cleaning, unlike that other guy." he joked.
He waved in a friendly manner as he approached the girl, "Hey, are you Futata Sen?"
She looked up again, standing up. Her knees were covered with wet grime, "I am. Anything I can help you with?" she smiled warmly, then seemed to catch herself. She quickly, pulled her clothing back into place, folding her hands and bowing as she went into honorific speech, "Oh, please excuse me sirs. Yes, I am Futata Sen, the priestess of Domino no Jinja. Welcome! Was there anything I could do for you today?"
((Yes, that is part of having captain abilities. XD))

Well at least she's polite, Seto thought. Definitely a plus after the last guy. Seto nodded at Jounouchi to encourage him to lead the conversation, he definitely had the better people skills to say the least. No point in Seto likely offending a needed contact right off the bat.
((Another new person, maybe we'll get lots and they'll all entertain each other and we can continue to be distracted by work. smile ))

Jounouchi nodded, not having a problem with being the one doing the talking, "Hi. I'm Jounouchi Katsuya, and this is Kaiba Seto. We're friends of Isis'. You don't need to use honorifics; we're not customers... just were wondering if you could give us advice on some... supernatural problems we're having."
Futata seemed to brighten at this, interestingly enough, quickly going back to casual speech, "Oh, you know Isis? How is she? I haven't talked to her for a couple months."
"She's good, everything going fine." Jounouchi replied, "So um... you got some free time?"
"Oh right, of course!" Sen smiled, dusting herself off and putting her broom over her shoulder, "Follow me."
((Haha, awesome. XD By the way, I was thinking something we might want to do to force a bit of character development would be to have some kind of life-saving from one of the boys. Like Jounouchi could save Mokuba's and/or Kaiba's life, or Kaiba could save Shizuka's and/or Jounouchi's some how. Each scenario would lead to at least some kind of thought and consideration, plus could make the power dynamics and the 'who owes who' thing more interesting between the two.))

They followed Futata away from the main shrine to be removed from the general stream of tourists, worshipers and other assorted visitors. Seto had never put much stock in any sort of spirituality. He expected to feel a mild discomfort having to visit such a place, but strangely he felt calm, serene. Maybe he wouldn't make such an effort to avoid these kind of places in the future.
- - -
Great, a shrine, closer attention clearly should have been paid. Not all shrines would have barred the spirits presence, but something within this one was most definitely forcing a keep away. That was worrying, a shrine that could bar the spirit might also possess the knowledge to banish it before the fulfillment of the contract and the taking of a victim, preferably victims.
Nothing to be done about that now, a banishment would require much more than anything that shrine could possibly house, as well as more knowledge than these idiots had about the details of the summoning. The contracts requirement to torture Jounouchi meant the freedom to visit anyone Jounouchi loved. Perhaps it was time to pay more attention to making some loved ones miserable, rather than this pair.
((Sounds like a good plan when we get the group back together. I will put some thought into that, but do you have any initial ideas or preferences about how the scenario would go? Or who should be the saved/who should be the savior?))
