Seppuku is ritualistic suicide done by taking a dagger and slicing your belly open sideways....many times you have a secondary to cut off your head at a certain point. It's used to restore fallen honor. Samurai used to have to do it if they lost in battle....and many families today will make their kids do this if they have brought great shame upon their family...

Well I know what it is, but never knew what it was called. Seems like a silly way to go though, they took this honor thing a bit too far surprised

I wouldn't call it silly at all, it's one of the most painful ways to die in such a short time. I mean it's REALLY REALLY REALLY painful to cut ACROSS your belly when there's so much resistance.
Really you could learn a lot from that culture with it's emphasis on honor and obeying those in higher authority. I think it's cool that they hold honor to be of high value, unlike here in America. Honor is really about integrity and morals, and while you may say it's too extreme, to call it silly is a grevious insult and show your ignorance....

What I mean is to kill yourself in the first place is silly stare , there are better things to do.
And you dont just obey, thats slavery, as a free individual you always have a choice. And to show such honor to an authority just because you were born below them in rank is silly

It's not just born below them it's also with leaders like your bosses and such. I mean obviously you have a choice and normally it takes something REALLY ******** up to do. They do this instead of disowning as it actually brings the honor lost back into their family. Like a son cheating on his bride with a 10 year old girl that he raped. sweatdrop

"Oh wow, your no good cheating son stabbed himself, he was so brave that I believe your family has its honor back" stare Now tell me what good actually came from that, who gained something from it???

Hmm, despite seppuku, suicide is still frowned upon by Japanese.

I say it now and I d say back then too, the reason it changed is because people started seeing that it is pointless.
