Cody looked at them pleadingly. "Please. I-I don't know what came over me. One second I was just glad to see Liz again and the next..." he turned his gaze to Liz, "Don't let them do this to me," he begged her.

After a moment's hesitation, she said, "Leave him alone."

Cody started at Kabal for a while. "You're dying, aren't you?" he asked. His voice didn't sound as worried as it should be.

Cody sighed and stood up. "You've somewhat dissappionted me, Kabal. I thought you were different. But look at yourself. You've really become soft!" He made a tisking noise and shook his head. "This is what happens when demons try to become good guys. You're a demon, Kabal. No matter how much you wish otherwise, all you are capable of doing is bringing harm and chaos." His voice turned to an almost whisper, "Darkness fills you. It runs through your veins. You were made to destroy. Not save." He sighed again and his voice returned to its normal volume. "Maybe if you're lucky, you will come back. Even though I'm sure you've waisted plenty of lives already, maybe the Council will give you one more try. I wouldn't, but it's not my choice to make. They fancy you for some unkown reason."

Liz looked at him in astonishment. That didn't sound like Cody at all. Of course, the voice sounded the same, but the manner of speaking was way off. "Cody, why are you-"

"Shut up!" Cody demanded and used a force of energy to send her to the ground. The fall knocked the air right out of her. He turned back to Kabal. "If you do come back, come back with this one lesson: Do not pretend to love or care for anyone ever again. You're a demon. You have no one." With that he summoned Ethan's handgun to himself. Once he did this, he shot Ethan right in the head. Then he turned to Liz and shot her through the stomach. He turned back to Kabal with a stern look on his face. "Maybe that will help you learn. I would love to stay and watch you die but I have places to be." After saying this, Cody's body fell to the floor. The redness left his eyes and a black smoke seemed to move out of his body and dissappear, leaving nothing but a dead corpse on the floor.

Liz looked up at him helplessly. She was still alive, but her breathing was shallow and she was fading fast. She tried to whisper his name, but a trickle of blood just came out from her mouth. All she could do was lay there and watched as the world began falling apart. She turned her head over to the side and saw Ethan's limp body just laying there. Then she turned back to Kabal. I'm sorry, she thought, even thought he might not be able to hear her thoughts, I'm sorry I let you down Kabal. She hated herself for always being so naiive. She should have known that the real Cody wasn't coming back. She should have just let Kabal get rid of him.

As Liz watched, she noticed two angels come to the ground beside her. One picked up her brother and took him, the other wrapped his arms around her and picked her up. "Liz, you are the only one who can stop him," the angel said in a voice that calmed her and made her feel as if everything would be alright. He gave a little jump and took to the skies gracefully, dodging fire and falling bodies as he went. Liz tried to look around, but couldn't see any sign of Ethan or the angel that had taken him. Finally, she just closed her eyes.

In what seemed like only a second later, Liz opened her eyes to notice that she was in a room as white as snow. The king-sized bed she was on was just as wite with gold sparkles in the sheets. She sat up and looked around. The pain she had felt before was gone comletely. "Where am I?" she wispered, looking down at herself. She was wearing a beautiful, long, white dress and there wasn't a scratch or mark anywhere on her.

"You're in the Hall of Angels," a voice said. She turned to see the angel that had resued her standing in the doorway with a calm smile on his face. "I hate to bother you so soon, but you have a destiny to fufill. You must stop Kabal."

His name brought back what had happened before she passed out. "Ethan-!"

"Is fine," the angel cut in, "Now please," he held out a hand, "you must hurry."

Liz nodded and got out of bed. As they walked down long white hallways, the angel explained what she had to do. When they got to a large door, she stopped. "Wait...so...you want me to go out there and convince him to stop? Are you crazy. You saw that monster. That isn't Kabal. I can't stop that...that thing!"

The angel looked at her with calm eyes. "Elizabeth, Kabal is inside that beast somewhere. He's hurt. He's confused. Fighting won't stop him. He needs love...he needs compassion. You're the only one who can stop him. Have faith."

"But I-" before she could finish her sentance, the door was thrust open and the angel pushed her. She went plumiting to the earth and thought she was about to die, but instead landed on the ground quite softly. She stood up and looked at the huge monster that was once Kabal. She had never felt so afraid in her life. There was no way I can reason with this thing, she thought. The angel's words came back to her. He needs love...he needs compassion. You're the only one who can stop him. Have faith. She closed her eyes tight and then opened them and looked at the beast. "Kabal!" she shouted, trying to be loud enough so he could hear her. She also tried to put bravery behind the word, but it didn't work. Her voice shook and gave out, reavealing how afraid she was.

"Wait! Kabal I'm not an angel. It's me. Liz....Elizabeth." Heart heart was pounding so fast and hard she wondered if he could hear it. She also wondered if he could sense the fear she felt. She wanted so badly to run, but she held her ground.

She tried to summon up more courage and it worked a little. "Kabal I know you're in there somewhere. This isn't you. Don't you remember who I am?" There was a little hurt in the last sentance that wasn't added on purpose.
