He was uneasy about it, but he stepped wherever her foot retracted. That was how to dance, right? He had been forced to watch enough movies. Alcott seemed relatively calm, but on the inside he was incredibly nervous.

She guided him gently, seeming to give him the lead, but still taking it. The music continued on, staying soft and sweet. "See? You're a natural!"

"If you say so." grunted the half-breed, obviously not convinced. He could use a cigarette about now, but both of his hands were holding her sides.

Suddenly, the song changed. The first cords of Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling In Love' rang out to them, and she looked up at Alcott in mild amusement. "Before the curse, did Elvis's music appear in our lives as often as it does now?" Michaela asked, reducing the dance to a simple swaying.

"Not as much, but his music was still there." he muttered as he looked to the window that still separated the balcony and the dance room. "I thought balls only had fancy crap." he grunted.

"The noble holding the ball likes all kinds of music, so I suppose he wanted to toss in some Elvis to shake things up," she shrugged, setting her head on his chest. "Like a river flows, surely to the sea, darling so it goes, some things are meant to be," she sang along softly before sighing.

He lifted one hand and stroked her hair while listening to her sing, deciding not to join in. He could and he could dance, but he couldn't do both at the same time.

Michaela closed her eyes as she stroked her hair, still singing along.
"Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you."
At this, the song still hadn't ended, but she couldn't bring herself to continue. Something in her hurt, yet it felt so wonderful. It was like something in her was trying to force something back down.

Alcott couldn't help but chuckle. "Are you singing or confessing something to me?" he teased lightly, though deep down he was hoping for the latter.

"Don't you just wish?" she teased back, looking up at him and grinning. "If I loved you, Alcott, you would definitely know."

"Well I know you don't just hate me." he said with a smirk of his own. "And you obviously like me. So why don't you just admit your feelings now?"

"Why don't you admit yours?" she retorted, her hands drifting up to toy with the ends of his hair. "You can't kiss me the way you do and dislike me, and you can't have sex with me the way you do and hate me."

"Alright." He set his thumb to the bottom of her chin and lifted her head until she was looking into his sparkling, sea blue eyes. "I love you." he said without hesitation or any hint of shyness.

Her eyes grew as wide as saucers, and Michaela froze. She couldn't breath, or even dare to move. Finally, she spoke, forcing a laugh. "Hey, that was some pretty decent acting. You could have a future in that!" Michaela tugged her chin from his grasp, taking a small step back so that, while he was still holding her, they weren't as close as before. "And you're better-looking than most the men in Hollywood, so it shouldn't be too hard to get a job." She was trying so hard to tell herself he was just kidding...but part of her didn't want him to be.

Alcott kept a steady gaze to her. "I'm not acting." he said, though he could understand her. It might as well be surprising for him to tell anyone that he loved them, let alone her. But it was the truth, believe or not. "I love you." he repeated.
