Jounouchi had felt like his throat had fallen to the pit of his stomach, watching that gun pointed at him. He had been frozen, trying to think of a way out of the situation he had stupidly gotten himself into. The thing that brought him out of it was Hirutani shrieking and cursing in pain, then a clank on the floor. Even though neither of those things sounded at all like a gun shot, he had panicked and dove to the floor, only realizing after what had happened. Taking a moment to catch his breath, as well as thank whatever god he probably didn't even believe in for the guy he used to hate being there for him, he finally got his bearings enough to shakily crawl over to the disarmed gun, grabbing hold of it and moving away from Kaiba's firing range, but not wielding it threateningly. He was too shaken up to be able to calmly point a gun at someone. Hell, he wasn't sure he could manage that even when at his best.
Hirutani was gripping his hand in pain, gritting his teeth and glaring daggers at Kaiba. He slowly let go of his hand, raising both of his arms into the air. "Go ahead. Kill me." he sneered, "I'm the only one who can call the spirit off, and if you kill me, it will just keep going after you."

'Well that is the only reason you are still breathing of course. You'd rather die than talk then? What's the point of any of this if you just want to die, satisfaction in an afterlife? Considering your little rant earlier I'm assuming your motivation was entirely based around the fact that Jounouchi has more friends than you, isn't that just completely pathetic?' Seto mocked, sneering at the man shaking in anger before him. He didn't want to just shoot him, but he also didn't think he'd be getting anything useful out of him. What would Hirutani's death mean, what should they do. He kept his eyes focused on Hirutani, waiting for him to respond to the taunts, hoping it would help him decide on the right course.
- - -
If Hirutani hadn't been a completely incompetent and bumbling master he'd have interfered already. Those who were weak, who didn't know how to control a shikigami shouldn't summon one. The only shame in little Seto shooting the man right now would be that he'd lose the chance to personally kill the wretch. Though he couldn't quite do it yet, Hirutani wasn't that weak, and his death would be worth it. With him gone he'd still be free to roam the mortal world until his job was complete, but he'd be truly free. He wouldn't be latched to Jounouchi, he could roam the world searching out victims. Eventually his power would wane and he'd have to return to his own realm regardless of if he'd finished the contract. It's not like he needed to roam the world anyhow, the only target he'd desired was here before him. A technicality sent him away before he could finish the job last time, but not this time, this time he'd enjoy it. 'You should have just walked far away from Jounouchi while you still could little Seto, pull the trigger and seal your fate.'

"That wasn't my motivation." Hirutani spat, one corner of his mouth twitching in anger.
Jounouchi was standing beside Kaiba now, the other gun held to his side. He was a bit surprised to see that the other had brought a real gun, but at this point, was just relieved they had Hirutani on the defensive.
"No, your motivation was getting some years-long revenge on me just because I left your stupid gang. I can't believe you're still holding onto something this stupid."
"Tch. You think I really still care that you left?" Hirutani argued, "I don't give a s**t about you anymore! I don't even have a gang anymore! I lost all that when you and your stupid star-headed friend made us fall off that building." his face darkened more, "I hit my head, Jounouchi. Really bad. It... messed something up with me. I can't focus anymore. I can't get people to follow me. I couldn't graduate, can't get a job. I. Lost. Everything. That's why you deserve to suffer."
Jounouchi had gone silent. He... really hadn't expected that. His mind was telling him, "Oh, boo-hoo. The guy tried to kill you and got hurt from you defending yourself. He deserves what he got." But he couldn't actually get himself to feel that way.
Hirutani was definitely a terrible person, and someone he had been hoping to never associate with again. He'd even been the one to first coerce Jounouchi into gang life, the one who started him down the path that he regretted more than anything else. But that didn't change the fact that... he'd been what could almost be considered a friend at one point. A mentor, definitely. Someone Jounouchi had looked up to for a short while. He'd taught him how to survive, how to be strong. And no matter what terrible things he'd done in the past, no one deserved to have their mind, and their life, ruined for it.
Jounouchi had done horrible things too, but thanks to Honda and Yuugi and Anzu, he'd been able to move past that and become a good person. Kaiba had done worse things than even Hirutani, but he'd redeemed himself and gotten past a lot of his old ghosts. Hirutani wasn't given that chance, and it was Jounouchi's fault. So yeah, he felt guilty. He felt terrible.

Jounouchi felt guilty, he actually felt guilty about what was very likely self defense if Seto knew anything about Jounouchi and his 'star headed' friend. As far as he was concerned Hirutani had gotten everything he deserved, but he had no real right to yell at the guy, no real idea of the situation Hirutani was talking about. Seto was at a loss, he felt terrible and he wasn't accustomed to feeling emotionally bothered about anything except maybe his brother. Even that was a bit of a challenge. Maybe this damn spirit was messing with his head again, before he could think of a useful response Honda interjected.
- - -
'Jounouchi don't even listen to him,' Honda shouted, pulling himself up from the broken pile of furniture he'd be unceremoniously tossed into. 'That idiot screwed up his own life okay, he tried to kill you and ended up hurting himself - he hurt himself, not you. Don't feel guilty that this moron failed so bad at killing good people who didn't deserve it that he inevitably broke his own twisted brain. His brain was already screwed up,' switching his attention to Hirutani, 'you were never going to amount to anything you low life scum. Stop trying to bring Jounouchi down because he decided he wasn't going to be your little lapdog anymore. You were never smart, you were never talented, people don't follow you because they've got better things to do than be thugs. You lost everything because you are evil, you're proving that now more than ever. You want to show you deserve anything then call off this damn spirit and maybe we can help you. Not that you deserve it, but we'd do it anyhow, because we aren't ******** assholes. Prove that you deserve a second chance or just shut the ******** up already, nobody needs to listen to your bullshit lies and bitching anymore.'
Honda was absolutely enraged, he couldn't believe Jounouchi was curled up on the floor feeling bad for this a*****e. He couldn't believe it, but Kaiba clearly had better control then he did. If he had a gun, if he could use a gun he'd have shot the man already. Jounouchi believed everyone had a good side, everyone deserved redemption. Which lead him to feel bad for scum like this, feel guilt for not being able to save everyone. Honda felt no such thing, people had to prove they deserved a second chance, nobody was entitled to whatever they wanted. He was either going to beat the s**t out of this guy or demand Kaiba shoot, but he'd give him three more seconds to say something - anything - that would maybe convince them to help him. Only for Jounouchi's sake of course.

Jounouchi looked over at his friend in surprise, "...Honda." he frowned. He saw his point, he really did. And he wished he could think that way too. But he just couldn't help but empathize with someone once they were showing even a little bit of their human side. He looked back to Hirutani, "... he does have a point. Getting revenge isn't going to help you at all. But maybe we can."
Hirutani grit his teeth more. He didn't want help. The doctors had already declared him a lost cause. His mother had been trying to take care of him, but he'd accidentally killed her in a fit of rage. No one knew about that yet... but what could these guys do to possibly fix him? What could anyone do? Nothing. No, the only use they had was suffering and dying so he could have at least a little satisfaction from all of this. However, he wasn't currently in a position to state his thoughts. So he forced himself to relax his posture a bit, "...Shikigami... stand by for now."

'Oh I'm standing' he thought sarcastically, derisively. Though just to make it absolutely clear he ceased the slight tremors that while no longer toppling furniture had clearly been making his presence known.
- - -
'Well?' Honda demanded, glad that Jounouchi seemed to at least be focusing on a goal rather than hating himself. 'You wanna talk like reasonable adults or not?'
- - -
Seto didn't lower the gun, he didn't trust Hirutani to not use the opportunity to try and wrestle his own piece back. He did relax his stance, however. He still didn't trust Hirutani to actually work with them willingly, and they didn't have enough to force his hand. Maybe he really would be motivated by a second chance, it's not like he knew the guy well enough to say. Given how much Jounouchi had surprised him over the past few days he supposed it wasn't impossible.
With that last thought in mind he glanced at the blond again. He seemed a bit calmer, less distraught, guess Honda had finally found the right words. Perhaps the situation could be resolved, they could help Hirutani, banish the shikigami...and then what? All go their separate ways most likely. 'Why should that bother you?', he chastised himself. He'd wanted nothing more than to be out of Jounouchi's company since he had inadvertently run into him that night at the coffee shop. A clean resolution, a quick end to the story was exactly what he wanted right? Right?
((I hope that's what you meant by stand by, if not, oops, let me know and I'll amend accordingly. xd ))

"Okay. Tell me. What could you guys possibly do to help me?" Hirutani crossed his arms, indicating he wasn't going to make a run for it or try to grab a weapon. He pressed his bloodied hand against his shirt to staunch the flow a bit.
((Yup, that's what I meant. He wants to the Shikigami to stop attacking, but be ready. XD))

Could he possibly be entertaining working with them? Though even if he was, that doesn't mean they could convince him, or that they wouldn't screw him over later.
'Well for starters,' Seto began hesitantly, but despite offering Honda and Jounouchi seemed a bit at a loss for what they could offer, 'I would assume that you haven't exactly had the finances to see the best doctors, I could help with that, and the work front as well. With proper treatment - because you seem too functional for me to just take the word of the apparent quacks who would argue you have zero options - you couldn't change the past, but you could potentially have the assets necessary to work toward a better future.'
- - -
Having actually been faced with an opportunity, Honda wasn't really sure what he could offer Hirutani. Kaiba clearly had money and money could sure go a long way to helping with that long list of complaints Hirutani had. However, Honda couldn't offer any of that, and he certainly wasn't going to offer friendship. Doctors and a job were more than he deserved, unless Jounouchi had something to add he decided this offer was good enough.
((Excellent, just making sure I didn't need to do anything more active.
I posted this on FB, but you don't have FB and thought you'd find this kinda interesting. Last night I had this weird sort of Smurfs origins dream. Weird in itself, but the focus was on Smurfette who turns out, not a chick. She's a transgendered mtf, though in the dream she's still in a masculine body (though growing out very long hair that she tries to curl - and it's green/blue rather than blond), but the blond curvy Smurfette is how she sees herself in her head. So yea, odd but I kept in the dream (I guess some background pov) thinking it made perfect sense. A friend pointed out that Smurfette was created by Gargamel for evil, but 'canon' also says Papa Smurf turned her into a 'real Smurf' implying that whatever she was before wasn't a Smurf. Anyhow I can wind myself in circles here but in short, I like the idea of Smurfette being a transgendered smurf.))

Jounouchi felt in a similar boat to Honda. Even though he was the most empathetic of the three, even he wasn't exactly willing to be Hirutani's friend or go to the hospital to help encourage his recovery.
Hirutani, for his part, seemed skeptical, "What, are you some kind of trust fund kid or something? You could afford 'the best doctors?'"
Jounouchi couldn't help but to snort in amusement at that. Hirutani still had no idea who Kaiba was.
((Oh wow, that's a really cool dream. That'd be awesome if Smurfette was trans*. It'd be awesome to have any more positive representations of trans* persons in pop culture, but especially in children's shows. Too bad it was just a dream.))

'Trust fund kid, owner and CEO of one of the largest gaming corporations in the world, one of those,' Seto answered amused, so apparently this guy still didn't know who he was dealing with.
((Yea I thought it was pretty nifty and now I do really wish Smurfette was trans. No idea where the dream came from though.))

'Yea, Kaiba Seto, owner and CEO of Kaiba Corporation,' Seto said, a bit irritated to feel like he was repeating himself. Guess the guy had claimed to be suffering head trauma. He wouldn't overload him with lengthy explanations - or boasts - in that case.
((Maybe))

"...the hell did you find this guy, Jounouchi?" Hirutani looked over at him.
"...it's a long story. Doesn't matter. He's offering to help you. You should take it." Jounouchi responded.
Hirutani paused for a moment before shrugging, "Sure, alright."

Seto frowned slightly, not expecting things to be this easy. He certainly wasn't ready to just put the gun away, though he lowered it slightly.
'I'm not going to lie, I wasn't expecting you to be this reasonable. We help you with the consequences of the injuries you suffered, get your life back on track, and you'll get rid of the spirit?' Seto asked, feeling they were still at a bit of a stalemate even if Hirutani had agreed to work with them.

"Sure, sounds good." Hirutani put on the fake smile that Jounouchi knew all too well.
Jounouchi looked at Kaiba, his expression saying not to trust the other. But he didn't know what else they could do at this point. Hirutani had power in this as long as he still had the spirit.
