I don't know what virus it is either but it has to be some form of virus.

If I remember, it was the g-virus specially tailored for wesker himself. I forget now but I'm pretty sure it was made for his specific gene code.

The Books Are Not Canon, and thus suck.

First of all the movie books are very Cannon to what the movies are. Apocalypse is like 80% cannon. Secondly, the other books may not be 100% cannon, but they're still awesome.

I love the Resident Evil books! Even if they aren't 100%, they're still really close.
