--Dℯℓiα S℘riηℊstℯℯη--His words stung Delia somewhat, but she couldn't figure out why. It's not like it was an unexpected thing for him to say; she didn't know anything about him, at least not as much as she should for her to say such things. But at the same time, she couldn't help but to get a little annoyed. "I don't know what kind of man you are, but I find it hard to believe that you could do anything truly bad," she said, more harshly than she'd meant to sound. Her voice softened a little bit and she looked at the floor again, biting her lip. "Maybe I'm just an idiot," she added quietly, "But if I didn't know any better, I'd say you're running away from something. Aren't you... afraid?" Her mind screamed at her to shut up, to just leave it alone, but for some reason she found herself unable to let it be. ---

Her tone of voice hit a nerve, and he stood, suddenly angry at her for reminding his of how much he hated himself."I am afraid! I am running away! Away from people who want me dead! Away from people who will only get hurt just by being my friend. I am a bad guy, dirty, rotten, and ******** up in so many ways that I really should be dead." His hands were balled into fists and his shoulders stiff, looking quite like a very angry wild animal ready to tear into it's prey. It took him a moment before he calmed down, and then guilt flooded him again. His shoulders slumped and he released his fists. letting his hands lay limp by his sides. He sat back down, "It would be better... If you just pretend you never met me."

--Dℯℓiα S℘riηℊstℯℯη--Delia flinched, her body tensing as she leaned against the wall. She hadn't meant to make him angry, and she hadn't meant to get so annoyed either. His yelling reminded her vaguely of her father, but a long time ago before she'd even started high school. It almost brought tears to her eyes but she blinked profusely before any of them could show. When he sat back down, she pulled herself up from the wall and walked until she was right in front of him, not moving her eyes from his face. "Nobody deserves to be dead," she said firmly, putting her hands on her hips. "The fact that you even suggested such a thing..." Delia huffed a sigh, her voice stubborn but soft at the same time. "I don't care how bad of a person you are. I can't just pretend I never met you."---

Jac had closed his eyes, waiting for the sound of the door closing to signify that Delia had left. When instead he heard her voice closer than before, his eyes snapped open and he looked up in surprise at her standing right in front of him. "Wha-" She told him off, and the look of shock remained the entire time. He had no idea what to say. He had never been told off before, not since he was a little boy. It was a strange feeling. He racked his brain for words, but none came to mind. Only one thought came, "Wh-... why do you care so much... about people?"

--Dℯℓiα S℘riηℊstℯℯη--Delia's arms went limp at her sides and she relaxed a little bit. Her lips pulled up just slightly to form another warm smile in spite of herself. "I hate seeing people in pain. It just makes me think of how it would be to be in their shoes, and I know it's not fun. And..." she sighed, looking at him with a firm gaze in her chocolate brown eyes. "I'd much rather see someone smile and laugh than go through that kind of pain. So stop beating yourself up and start calling yourself my friend." ---

Jac sat there and smply breathed for a moment, not sure how to respond. After everything, this girl was still tring to be his friend. Most would have taken the hint and gotten lost by now, but nope. Not Delia. He looked at her, deciding to tell her one last thing before she made her choice in friendship final.
"You know why I got shot?" Of course she didn't. "I got shot, because Mog was in danger. He was in danger for something I did. And because he is my friend, the people who want me dead want after him. Yesterday, I went to try and get him out of danger, which was exactly what they wanted, and I narrowly escaped with both of our lives. That's the kind of friend I am. The kind that puts his friends in danger. You could get killed for being my friend."

--Dℯℓiα S℘riηℊstℯℯη--Delia stayed dead silent for a long while as she listened to him explain what had happened. It sounded like the kind of stuff that happened in movies, the kind of stuff she used to believe wasn't real. She may be innocent but she certainly wasn't stupid; she knew that kind of stuff happened in the world. She just never expected she'd have to face it. Her jaw clenched and unclenched as she thought for a moment, until her mind yelled "screw it" and she crouched down in front of him to look him in the eyes. "There's something you don't get: if you were really a bad person, you wouldn't have gone to the trouble of saving him, would you? Some people would have gotten their friends mixed up in that kind of trouble and then just left them to get killed. But you went back. You were afraid, but you went back to save your friend. The fact that you acknowledge your own faults makes you a pretty good person in itself. I'm not afraid of being your friend, Jac. Not one bit." She finished her rant with a stubborn smile, the kind she used to pull when she was little. ---

When Delia knelt before him, Jac looked at her, wondering what she was doing. He listened, not believing what he was hearing. Out of that twisted, F-ed up mess, she still found a reason to argue the fact, undeniable in his own head, that he was a horrible person. This had to be a dream or something. He was really bleeding out on the side of the road somewhere, shot full of holes, and this was some sort of dying hallucination. Was it not supposed to be his life flashing before his eyes? Well, it sort of did in that dream before, but this was some surreal s**t.
He took a deep breath, something he seemed to be doing a lot more these days, and bowed his head on the exhale, his wood brown hair falling over his face. "You're crazy." He muttered, but could not help the chuckle that passed with the words.

--Dℯℓiα S℘riηℊstℯℯη--Delia blinked, bemused by his reaction but satisfied all the same. Had she won the argument? "I'll take that as a compliment," she replied with a satisfied smile, rising back on her feet. She glanced at her purse, which was in the corner of the room on the floor, then checked her phone. "Almost quarter to nine," she announced, biting her lip in thought. "I guess we should get going, then? I mean, you should get going, but, it's on the way, so..." she trailed off, her face growing pink in embarrassment again at her sudden loss in composure. --- Kiyiya Sakura Hahaha! Well that's the effect I wanted it to have I guess. smile

Jac jolted upright at the announcement of the time. "s**t! Yeah, um we should go." He stood, wincing slightly as his stitches tugged a bit, but it was not that painful. more just uncomfortable. He slipped on his shoes, tied perfectly so that they were tight enough not to slip off, but loose enough that he did not have to tie and untie them every time he put them on or took them off. He grabbed his bike keys off the counter, then put them back. It was a ten minute walk at th slowest pace, and he did not want to leave Delia to walk back alone after everything she had just done. He could tough it out. "Alright, let's go." The heavy atmosphere all but dissipated when Jac realized he could have been late for work, but her words still echoed in his head.

--Dℯℓiα S℘riηℊstℯℯη--Delia stared down at her feet for a moment, not sure what else to say. She was still smiling, the warmth of it still lingering in the blush of her cheeks. Whether she had made any impact on him with her words was unknown to her, but it didn't really matter, did it? She looked up and nodded, and picked up her bag and slung it over her shoulder. She followed close behind him out the door, perhaps a little bit too close because she almost tripped on his heals as they exited. Finding and steadying herself once again, she walked next to him in the silence, keeping her eyes ahead at the ground. "It's been a weird morning, huh?" she said aloud with a little laugh. ---

Jac took it slow down the stairs, using the railing for once. He sort of scoffed at Delia's comment, "Yeah, you could sat that." They turned onto the sidewalk and made their was to the college. He began to relax, the tension of the morning starting to fade away. He turned to Delia, "So, are like one of those people who go out looking for nut cases to try and fix or what. Like a born again Christian or something?" He asked in an attempt at humor. "Because if that's the case, you have your work cut out for you."

--Dℯℓiα S℘riηℊstℯℯη--Delia was quiet for a minute as they turned onto the sidewalk. She kept a close eye on him, as he probably shouldn't be moving around that much. Luckily he was taking it slow so everything seemed to be fine for the time being. At his question, she broke out into a smile, unable to contain her laughter. "This may come as a shock to you, but I don't purposely go out in search for.. whatever you are," she said teasingly as she looked at him. "I just prefer to help people rather than leave them in the dust. I don't aimlessly search for it, it just happens." She added with a small laugh and shrug as her eyes fell on the pavement ahead of them. Why was it so hard for him to comprehend that? she wondered. ---

Jac smirked a bit, finding her answer both funny and honest. "Huh. Dunno if that's a good thing." He jived. As they neared the college, the sandwich shop also came into view. He walked her to the entrance to the campus, "Well, guess this is your stop." He looked across the street at his new workplace, then back at her. "Say, you said this," he motioned to his side, "Would be healed in a few days. Would you... I mean... I don't think I can pull them out on my own..." He said with a grimace, remembering his fainting in the bathroom.

--Dℯℓiα S℘riηℊstℯℯη--Delia peered around the campus nervously, glad that Danielle seemed to be nowhere in sight. She wasn't really in the mood for another rant about boys. With a sigh she turned to face him again, watching him for a minute before her lips pulled up into a grin. "Of course," she replied with a giggle, "Just call me Nurse Delia!" At her own remark, her nose wrinkled slightly in a mix of disgust and amusement; she hadn't expected the title to sound so... preppy. "If you ever need anything, just call me, or.. well, you know where to find me."---
