Mel gave Lafayette a look. "You could.... lose? Spectacularly? In the dumbest possible way?" she clarified, smiling dubiously at him. She couldn't tell if he was boasting to boast.... or if he just wasn't quite thinking about what it was he was trying to brag about, here.
Mel tilted her head. "Fourth, that's..." She flashed a playful smirk. "Actually less than I expected. I'm disappointed, Lala," she teased, before giving a joking wink. The atmosphere shifted at Brian's return, and by the time she was sitting again, her mood had changed, too. She frowned at Lafayette's response, though. "Not all of them. I know Lucy wouldn't," she stated stubbornly. "Z wouldn't either." Her eyes widened and she quickly set her drink down when Lafayette promptly... hit his pokemon on the head. "Lala! Goodness!" she exclaimed, standing, only to swoop down and kneel by the dewott. She frowned, placing a gentle hand on his head. "You really do bonk their heads, don' you..." she muttered, frowning uncertainly. That was so.... off putting. Pokemon were tough, she knew it, really, but... it still felt like... abuse to hit them like that. And she wasn't really sure how to feel about the fact that she was friendly with someone who did it.
"I'll be fine," she sighed, standing up. "I just need to work with Phia more. I really have neglected training her. I can probably have Lucy or one of the others help me, too, if I need." She brushed some sand off her skirt, before picking up her drink, and sitting back down. It would be fine, but it did bother her that one of her pokemon was acting out so much, and Brian had to be the one to tell her. She'd need to take training back into her own hands, at least for a bit.

"Mm… I don’ think so." Lafayette grinned, tone ambiguous to hide whether he was truly considering the concerns of that fact or not. It was very true, that losing was a thing. He still, admittedly, wasn’t worried but saw no reason not to deny her facts any further.
He just gave a joking roll of his eyes as she expressed her teasing disapproval though that didn’t last long as the whole situation involving Phia and her actions. He frowned and quirked his head a bit to the side as Mel stubbornly answered his question. Well no, starters were meant to be loyal, now weren’t they? He supposed Z mattered too, glancing down to the pokeball at his belt again. Legendaries didn’t offer themselves up so easily to people, right? So, he supposed he could believe it.
He was a little startled when she suddenly called him out, frowning and giving her a confused look as she knelt to comfort the Dewott. "Wah…?" He remarked, confused as he watched her. What had he done? Noah sniffled and looked up at Mel in his own surprise, rubbing his nose once more before relaxing a little. It was… nice to get some comfort from someone although soon he was puffing out his chest and trying to toughen up per his trainer instructions.
"He ain’ got a reason ta be wussin’ over it. He been through worse," he remarked with a frown, beer bottle held up and hovering near his lips. He wanted to take a swig but he was caught up in the reaction. He gave Noah a look as well, frowning a bit at the thought of him trying to milk the situation. It didn’t look that way but still! The Dewott knew better. "S'pose tha's the best way...," he remarked, though tone suggesting he didn't quite agree. Of course he wouldn't if everything he'd shown was any evidence. But well, not his pokemon. not his call. "Best get goin' before she burns a buildin' down sheila. She seem like tha' kind of a fire bug."

Mel ignored the bewildered Lala in favor of making sure Noah was okay. She offered him a smile when she looked up, pleased to see him relax. She grinned when he puffed up and toughened. "There you are. What a tough pokemon," she mused, straightening up. She looked at Lala, trying hard, and somewhat failing, to not roll her eyes at Lafayette's retort. "Well I'm sure he has, but that's no reason to hit him on the head. You can be stern and gentle too, you know," she replied peaceably. Though, given Lala, maybe he didn't know. That might be a foreign concept to him.
She sat back down, giving him a look at his 'agreement'. "Glad you approve," she replied playfully, before placing a hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry, I don't at all intend to let her off easy," she added with almost as much playfulness. She gave a wink as she withdrew her hand. "Not that I think you're really worried." She took a sip of her drink, but sighed, frowning. "I suppose.... Haven't been able to have much of a vacation yet, though. Maybe I'll stick around Alola 'till I finish training, at least. I bet it's got some exceptional views," she mused.

Noah couldn’t help a cheesy grin at the praise, giving a ‘Wott!’ of pride with his hands on his hips. Ah yeah, he was certainly tough! The toughest! And while he was still semi-wincing from that sneak grass attack, it was nothing! Totally nothing! He turned to look at Lafayette, blinking and noting the drink in his hand and looking a bit curious. He’d seen those bottles before; the stuff inside wasn’t the tastiest.
Lafayette just grunted. Right, that again. He was pretty sure there was some level of contradiction going on with trying to be stern and gentle. It was evident to him, at this point though, there was no point in arguing his very narrow view on the whole subject and for now, he let it pass, instead smirking as the conversation moved forward.
"G’donya sheila. Yeh go to easy an’ she’ll keep it up." He took a swig of the beer and set it down, oblivious to Noah moving closer now and attempting to swipe it for himself. The Aussie stood up, stretching his legs a moment and giving a thoughtful ‘hm’ at Mel’s comment. He made a bit of a face at the mention of sticking to Alola, shifting his gaze out across the beach and the waters. He wasn’t quite feeling the same on that but he could understand. He put on a grin, glancing back at her curiously.
"Well then wha’ ya lookin’ ta do sheila? Swimmin’, surfin’? Ah… not drownin’?" Because clearly there was nothing else to do that wasn’t water related right? Admittedly, he was still a bit salty from before and that was probably why his immediate thoughts were water related… but still. That was what you did right? He glanced around again in consideration. "Bet boat ridin' would be fun... or could jus' practice swimmin'." He gave her a cheeky grin, "bet ah could outswim ya sheila."

Mel smirked, taking a sip of her drink. She didn't give a response to that, though; instead, the silence and dip in conversation -- on her end, at least -- allowed her gaze to slide past him, and narrow a bit when she noticed Noah. She reached over, past Lafayette, casually picked up his beer bottle, and gently placed the bottom on the dewott's head. Giving a gentle push, she nudged him away. "Think you ought to ask for that, love," she suggested, "Else you might get another little head knock." She straightened, paused, then took a drink before oh so casually handing it back to Lafayette, as if she hadn't done anything at all.
She shrugged some at Lafayette's questions, giving him a quizzical smirk at the list. "I was thinking more sight seeing and mountain climbing," she admitted with great amusement as she looked at him, "Maybe a bit of swimming." Noah was about ready to sneak a sip when Mel stopped him. He gave a little yip in surprise before his face flushed red in embarrassment at being caught, cheeks puffing in a huff. The gentle little nudge didn’t bother him, though he was pouting at that point with arms over his chest. Damn, he’d been close too. Lafayette blinked and looked down as Mel handed him his beer, looking confusingly between it and his pokemon. Had he missed something? Oh well. He took a quick swig and set it down again, this time within eyesight so Noah didn’t have the chance to snag at it again.
"Oh… those are things too…," there was an expansion of cliffs and mountains, if he recalled correctly when they’d flown over; definitely the kind you could scale and climb. That sounded like fun as well actually; especially since it wasn’t water related. "Sounds like fun."
His grin grew at Mel’s response to his challenge, giving a hearty laugh as he swung his own hand around and clapped it to her, giving a firm grip and even firmer shake. "Oh yeh sheila?" He mused, eyes shining. "Then yer on!" When she said to name the time and place, he was tempted to say then and there. But something tugged at the back of his mind, seeming to remind him that… that might’ve not been the best choice. He needed to do a bit of adapting to his er… new situation and all. So he thought a moment, grin still on his face all the same . "How ‘bout in a day or so? If’n yeh gonna be aroun’ an’ all." He released his hold and held a finger up. "Plenty water aroun’… can jus’ hit the beach here. What’ya say?" He took a glance at Brian, still grinning. "Wha’ ‘bout you mate? Yeh a swimma’?"

Mel smirked. "Indeed they are," she remarked with amusement, taking a sip of her drink. She licked her lips happily, and nodded as she lowered her drink. "And indeed it does. I look forward to it, though I'm going to need to find a place for Brian to sit his lazy arse while I'm off adventuring," she added, flashing her friend a playful smile. Somehow, Brian still wasn't in much of a joking mood, and just stared right on ahead. She brought her gaze back around to Lala, grinning as the topic shifted to swimming, and competing.
"Works fine for me," she replied, crossing one leg over the other, and resting her arms atop her knee, "Gives us both a bit of time to warm up and settle in." She was smirking as she sipped her drink again, already anticipating the competition. She was looking forward to it. "You planning to stay here tonight?" she asked, gesturing back towards the resort. They could always just meet out sometime tomorrow. Heck, she might even get up early to do a bit of practice swimming in the morning, just to get a feel of the water, and stretch her muscles. Use it instead of her typical run. She glanced over as Lala questioned Brian, raising her eyebrows while she took a drink of her beverage. Brian glanced over, looking a little uncomfortable. "Um.... I mean, I don't really.... swim that often, but, yeah, I kinda do when I can..." he admitted, finally sort of joining the conversation. Mel eyed him, then straightened as she lowered her drink. "Actually, did I mention? Bri here is terrified of women," she remarked, oh so casually, resting a hand on her friend's shoulder. Brian instantly gave her a disapproving look, to which she gave a shrug and an incredulous, innocent expression in return. "What? It's a relevant matter, Bri!" she defended. She turned back to Lala, gesturing. "So, of course, any situation where there are girls, particularly less clothed, like, say.... at a swimming pool, he tends to get sent running," she explained, taking a casual sip of her drink, expression open and tooooootally too innocent to know how much she was annoying her friend. Who was, indeed, glaring quite a bit at her. He sharply turned his head away, and started downing his own drink.

Excited with the prospect of a challenge, Lafayette maintained his grin. He was still standing, now to antsy to stay sitting. He was ready to hit that water and start prepping for the swim but that would be rude, just running off into the water. "Bloody ace sheila! It’ll be a bonza’ of a time!" The enthusiasm really was heavy.
"Oh?" Lafayette glanced at Brian, noting that he still seemed rather… dower since his return. Which he guessed was understandable, what with had happened with the pokemon. "Yeh, got a room here for a few days’n all. Gonna use it while ah can." He answered to Mel’s inquiry. If Juliean was paying then yeah, he was making the most of it while he could. "Wha’ ‘bout you? Lafayette blinked as Mel remarked on why exactly Brian couldn’t really join in on the whole swimming competition himself. At first the Aussie thought it was something simple; maybe Brian couldn’t swim or he just wasn’t a fan of the water. What Mel said though… well admittedly, that confused him. " Afraid ah sheilas? " But… wasn’t Mel a woman? Or was he missing something? She looked female enough to him) not that he was going to hazard trying to get a proper check) but…

Mel couldn't help the smile of amusement on her face at Lafayette's enthusiasm. It was honestly sort of endearing. Like a kid who found out they'd be getting to play in the Big Game the next day, or something. She turned her gaze to inquisitively glance over at the resort as she awaited Lafayette's response, but looked to him once he spoke up. She smiled. "Makes sense," she remarked. She knew if she had a room there, she'd certainly be staying. Speaking of, she shook her head to Lala's question. "No, not quite in my budget," she replied, smiling. She tilted her head back. "Prolly just go find a pokecenter or somethin' to stay at. But, I'll be sure to get a good night's rest for tomorrow's competition," she promised.
At Lala's confusion, Mel smirked some. She might have.... predicted that. Maybe did it on purpose. Or maybe not, and she was just amused all the same. "Thank you for noticing," she replied playfully, but chuckled, "I think I'm the exception, though." Brian threw her an annoyed look that suggested she ought to know she was, not just think it. "Oh?" Lafayette titled his head, thoughtful expression crossing his face at the thought. He supposed that made sense, though it seemed a waste not to stay somewhere nice. He gave a cheesy grin. "Yeh wan’ meh room sheila? Don’ seem like a proper vac-o jus’ stayin’ in a pokie center." His tone was kind of ambiguous as he made the offer but he sounded serious on it. It wasn’t much of a loss for him to be honest; he’d probably prefer the center to the room he had. It was more his level.
He frowned and glanced between Mel and Brian, still looking confused. Well alright it was good to know he wasn’t far off with Mel being a girl. Or that she was the exception to the odd rule; that much made sense to the limited thinking he had going on. Growing up with someone did seem to have the odd effect of making them ‘different’. The response to his follow up question though still had him puzzling. Enough so that he was a bit oblivious to the glares going on that seemed to suggest people stop talking.
"How yeh know for sure?" He asked, tone an honest innocent curiosity. Whatever he was thinking, clearly it wasn’t enough to get him coming up with an answer of his own. But like… that didn’t make sense, right? The whole fear of women seemed rather… detrimental to knowing, right? Something like that? Not that he cared honestly but it was a question.

Lafayette had to pause a moment and think about what he’d said. Mel’s curiosity caught him off guard and he had to consider his answer. That was probably a little too much information on his part, even if he hadn’t said anything specific. "Heh, sorreh sheila. Jus’ mean’… boss is a bit crazeh. Pretteh sure jus’ let me have the room for doin’ the eggo hunt or somethin’." He rubbed the back of his neck again with the shake of his head.
The dumbfounded look just made Lafayette more confused. He shrugged. "Neh, not realleh. Ain’ realleh thought ‘bout. Ain’ much for crackin’ on othahs… jus’ a waste a if you ain’ lookiin’ ta settle." He watched Brian a moment, arm folding over his chest as he frowned. "If I was lookin’ ta get a naughteh though, I’d go for a sheila before a bloke," he raised his hand and scratched his cheek, "so if yeh can’ get near a sheila, how would’ya know feh sure?" Lafayette was beginning to think maybe Brian’s fear stuff was just a joke; that or he was very much, very clearly missing something. Which, given him, wasn’t hard.
He distracted from the topic a moment at a yank at his shorts, glancing down to Noah who seemed to be in a better disposition. The Dewott pointed for the ocean, chirping in a sort of excited tone to indicate his desire. Lafayette had to think about it a moment before giving a little nod and a ‘shoo’ing gesture to indicate the pokemon had his permission to go swimming. The Dewott cheered, arms flying into the air as he rushed his way for the coast line.

Mel nodded slowly, letting the topic drop, but still looking at Lafayette curiously. What was his boss like, hm? A scientist? Maybe one that spent a little too much time getting shocked by pachirisu, or locked away in a lab? Or maybe an eccentric fellow with some big goals. He was having Lafayette run around and do a lot, it seemed. She put the curiosity away, though, and just let the boys talk, busying herself with her drink. Brian stared at Lala, but then blinked several times at some of the string he used. "'Crackin on'....?" he repeated hesitantly, as if he wasn't quite sure he even wanted to know what that meant. It sounded kind.... violent. And considering this was Lafayette....
For once, Brian actually looked kind of curious, but then paused, frowned, and just brought his drink back to his lips, instead of asking.... or voicing, whatever was on his mind. He gave Lafayette a dubious look, and he was very much about to tell him it probably wasn't worth explaining, if he wasn't that involved in the topic to begin with, when Mel generously spoke up. "He likes to look," she remarked simply, and whether it was the alcohol getting to her, or just a "done with this" attitude towards the bush circling, she seemed quite casual about this, and even leaned back as she sipped her drink, despite the violent glare Brian gave her. "You don't have to make it sound so creepy!" he snapped, flushing. She rolled her eyes. "What? I mean you... like... the aesthetics, of women, in a more than... purely... artistic sense, right?" she tried again, rolling her wrist with her drink in hand as she did. Brian gave her a blunt stare that suggested he highly assumed that was going to go well over Lala's head, and wasn't helping the situation at all. "Whatever.
