Goku, although heavily wounded manages to beat Piccolo. Piccolo spits out one last egg before going boom swearing revenge and then Yajirobe saves Goku from a fatal fall.
Yajirobe then takes Goku to Korin tower to get healed.

Goku gets healed at Korin's where he tells Korin that the dragon has been killed. Then Korin informs Goku about Kami and that all Goku needs is his power pole. So, after searching for the pole and finding it at Roshi's, Goku once again heads for Korin's tower so he can go meet Kami.

After learning a few tips from Mr. Popo on how to become a better fighter, Goku promises to train at the lookout until his skills are better than they are now as it would thrill him more than ever. It could be supposed that Goku felt that the battle with Piccolo was a little bit too close for comfort. As a bonus, Goku got to meet with Kami and he is going to get his wish to bring his friends back from the dead.

The eternal dragon Shenron was revived as was all the people killed by Piccolo. Goku begins his training and Roshi tells the others that Goku is one lucky monkey to be training with Kami the guardian of the earth.

To train like Mr. Popo did, the first step is to be quicker than lightning. In order to do that, Goku travels to Mount rumble where he must retrieve a sacred crown and bring it back without being zapped.

Goku's next task as a break from the first one, was to meet an elderly man and learn to fish using a pole instead of with a tail.

The third test was to travel back in time to when Roshi and Shen were young and Master Motiahito was still alive. Roshi and Shen both liked this one girl named Fan Fan, but Fan Fan seemed to like Goku when Goku saved her scarf from washing down the river. Shen tried to do something despicable, but Goku was there to save the day and the Master was also upset at Shen for Shen's behavior.

Now Goku has to face his own doll who is free of all emotion and thought, thus is seemingly stronger. In reality, Goku can become as strong as the doll if he just freed his thoughts and his heart of all outside stimulus that wastes energy.

Mr Popo suggests playing hide n seek next where the idea is to detect the other's spiritual energy as part of Goku's mind training. Meanwhile on the way to Korin's tower, Krillin, Chiaotzu, Tien, and Yamcha find a village in the path of an active volcano where our heroes are going to try and stop.

Goku still hasn't adapted to spiritual seeking, but he is at least trying. Meanwhile, the rest of our heroes have successfully stopped the flow of lava by creating a new path for the lava to flow.

Everyone meets up for the world's martial arts tournament to really notice Goku's height and the fact that his tail is gone. Piccolo Junior is also in this tournament.

After a few successful preliminary bouts, it is discovered that Chiaotzu has been knocked out by Mercenary Tao who is now a cyborg and out for revenge.
Also in the tournament is Chichi whom Goku has forgotten. Then there is Yajirobe who has his face covered by a mask.
King Choppa was easily dealt with by Goku, but at least a fair opponent.

The 8 finalists in this tournament are Tien, Tao, Krillin, Piccolo Junior, Chichi, Goku, Hero, and Yamcha. In the first round, its Tien vs Tao.

Tien defeats Tao even after Tao pulled a knife and got himself dqued. One punch and Tao was out. Now its Goku vs Chichi.
