very true! i had attempted to teach my friend to say some basic greeting in chinese... he just can't say it right...

lol same same. they r all like "teach me chinese" and they forget the words a day later, then we repeat the process ofr a while, and eventually they all give up. confused

it is so weird that when i teach vietnamese chinese they can remember it, but when i teach non-asian chinese they always messed up and forgot

well if it makes u feel better u r not missing much at all. these dayz u can learn chinese from almost anywhere

well, come to think of it if u're not going to work in an area that requires chinese, then u really don't have to take it. but of course if it's ur personal interest then that would be unfortunate.

its actually really no one's "personal interest/hobby", most ppl who takes it volunteeraily thinks that supposely (or so that we've been told), it will benefit us in the future.

i'm taking chinese part I and II next year~ i know how to write but i'm not good at speaking mandarin... sweatdrop cuz i'm cantonese and only learn a little mandarin at school...

mostly mandarin. i'm hokkien so at home i do speak some hokkien, and my friends who are cantonese, they speak some canoto at home.
actually, we can have hokkien, canto, mandarin, malay and english all in one sentence.
