"Wellp," Miles began, plucking a blade of grass and placing it between his lips, "Looks like this here's a man's job." He placed the wood down and buried his hand in his pocket, pushing the ring box aside to reach deeper. He put on his best farmer act and sauntered over to the village. Holding back a flurry of emotions randing from anger to a sickness building up his the pit of his belly, he nodded and chewed on the grass. "MmmHmm," He hummed, still nodding and chewing. "What we have here," he spat out the grass, "Are some right dead villagers." He laughed at himself and turned around to face Karasu again. "Nothing we can do."

"Don't give in to his demands," Kraid spoke softly to the queen. "He's bluffing," Kraid looked to the queen, trying to gauge her emotions. "On second thought," he spoke, watching as the elf raised his sword to the queen, "He looks like he's going to cut your throat."

Mirado followed Miles and inspected the village. A deathly chill hung over the place. "Not many things can do something like that..."

As Valentius approached the city gates, guarded by the usual inert soldier, he turned back toward the city streets, flickering in the torchlight. Although he disagreed with everything which the Queen now stood for, he couldn't help but notice the blade of pity twisting in his heart. She may have recently transformed into a powerhungry hag, but she was defenseless. All of her guards had stupidly followed the retired swordman into the streets, only to be knocked unconscious for who knows how long. The image of his royal friend alone in her throne room with the suspicious new Freelance gave him chills which bitterness could not suppress. Nevertheless, he could hear the ringing of Destiny's call in his ears, or he's just still really drunk. Either way, he silently bid farewell to his home of thirty years and sidled through the massive gates.

~~~
The Queen's expression swiftly melted away as her glimmer of hope was doused in an instant and the Elf's wild, violet eyes had grown all the more menacing. She now quaked shamelessly in her throne, her back pressed against the wood which lie beneath its thick cushion. The Freelance spoke of the villages which he had desecrated and the Queen then feared that she would soon suffer the same fate. She could no longer stand the eerie madness of his optics, and shut her own tightly to escape it. This made no difference, however, as the image of them appeared to be carved into her mind. And even as he spoke of her vices and all that she had done for a mere gold coin, her feeling of anxiousness smothered any chance for regret to surface. The Elf began to list his demands, and the Queen listened intently, the echoes of his voice consuming any sound of the otherwise mute throne room. Her lids pried open at the name "Ylvesca," and widened all the more at the sound of metal against metal. The Queen stared down at the blade which was mere inches from her face, and tears broke free to stream down her ghostly pallor. He was awaiting an answer which she could not give. Her vocals were strained and strung in her throat. No sound escaped her lips, aside from the occasional whimper. Finally, she managd to force a word, "Y..Y-Yes.." Her eyes did not dare leave the shimmering blade before her, as she prayed with all of her might that it would soon be moved.
Karasu remained in place, her head hung low in remorse, and her eyes held tightly shut as Miles investigated the village. She looked up to see him reemerge from the brambles shaking his head and speaking of hopelessness. She inhaled deeply and slowly strode through the brush and into the village. ~I'm going to find who's behind this travesty,~ she told Miles telepathically as she winced at the sights.
Yousei smiled more widely as the man uttered his name. Judging by his mannerisms, he was far more amiable than he had first appeared. As he mentioned their current disposition, the Elf took the opportunity to observe her surroundings. She had never ventured into any Terrain quite like this one, though she felt somehow content in its icy grip despite her inappropriate attire. Yousei turned back toward Hile and took advantage of his sightlessness to soak in his appearance. The stance which he had acquired beside her seemed peculiar. It was as though he was ready to leap into battle. In fact, everything about him appeared to be carved intricately and quite specifically for war. As she looked upon him, she couldn't help but feel a strange sense of destiny...
Miles nodded to her and took up his armload of logs once more, making his way back to their original camp. He dug into the dirt a few inches and placed the logs inside, creating a circle of stone surrounding the pit. He snapped his fingers, sending a spark from the tip of his thumb to the pile of wood. Building the fire up he smiled, admiring his work. After a moment he looked back to Mirado and waved him over, "Karasu said she'd go find out what happened, We should just wait here."
Kraid sighed, his fun was over. The queen wouldn't listen to him anymore. Unless... He placed his hand on the queens shoulder, leaning close enough for his cold skull to brush her ear. "I can get you out of here," He spoke slowly and softly. "But you'll have to do exactly as I say"
(Fixed, sorry about that =O Little out of it)
(Hile is GreyZone's character. xD Mine is named Mirado.)
"Alright. That's fine by me." Mirado returned to his seat against a nearby tree. There was little they could do until Karasu returned.
Witium's eyes did not waver as they set upon the queen's. Their purple electric luster pierced her calm mood like a arrow. His wrist tensed as he prepared his sword hand for execution as the queen hesitated with her answer. The elf simply nodded in approval when she let out a faint yes. The sword retracted and traveled elegantly back into its sheath by Witium's guiding hand. He spoke calmly, but never the less assertive, "Good answer."
The elf turned about on the ball of foot and began to walk away. Things were going smoothly and it seemed nothing would stand in his way. Too good to be true though. The soft whisper of manipulation escaped Kraid's skeletal mouth and seeped into the Queen's jeweled ear like a slimy slug. Of course Witium picked up on with his rather large ears. The elf figured he still couldn't kill Kraid no matter how hard he tried so maybe he'd tug at the Queen's sanity a bit more for extra insurance. With his back turned Witium lifted his armored hand straight up from his side. His hands tensed and contorted into a claw-like configuration. It shook violently like it had electricity pulsing through it and the gauntlet covering it rusted in the blink of an eye. As his wrist flicked out and his fingers extended the gauntlet shattered into nothing and so did the four legs of the queens throne. She'd inevitably fall down on her bumb in a rather comical way. With that the elf shook out his hand and walked out hoping that would be enough.
Hile grinned slightly and shook his head as he noticed that she was looking him over. “Don’t let the blindfold fool you,” he said, standing slowly, “I’m no cripple.” He began to create a detailed image of his surroundings in his mind, listening to every sound and every echo until he found what he was looking for. Taking a few steps to his right, he reached down and picked up the blanket at his feet. It was large, roughly ten feet by five feet, and he folded it in half lengthwise before stepping back over to where the girl was seated. Reaching out to hand the blanket to her, he spoke, his head turned as if to look towards the fire. “Try and keep warm. We’ll be heading out soon.”
With a heavy heart, Valentius climbed the dirt path to the Black Woode and peered through its abyssal branches. It was then that he realized he had no idea where he was supposed to go next. The prophecy was not at all specific and he was incredibly inebriated when he had first read through it. He scratched at his stubble and thought aloud, "Somethin' about Elves 'n whatnot.. Fer the love o'--I can' remember a bloody thing!! Curse tha' ale fer bein' so good.." Whilst straining his mind and cursing profusely, the retired swordman attempted to piece together the blurred and broken image of the fragile document. After several fruitless minutes, he realized that he may very well be there for some time, and crossed his legs on the dirt path. Perhaps a change of position would help him to focus...
~~~

Queen Thena shook violently, tearing her hands from the arms of her chair as she heard the raspy voice of the blackened entity and felt its icy flesh brush against her own. She could barely hear any sound, as her head and heart raced faster. Her eyes were now fixated on its ebony skull, and the cold and lifeless sockets where eyes should be. Though her peripherals caught sight of movement, she dare not tear her eyes away. However, the Elf was quite possibly a greater threat than this nameless creature. It was then that she turned at the sight of swifter movement only to be rewarded by the collapsing of her chair. The shock of the fall brought her to tears and as the Elf finally left through the entrance doors, she curled up in what remained of her beautiful throne and wept silently. After a moment or so, the words which the strange creature had spoken to her registered within her mind. She turned toward him, though avoided looking into those disturbing voids and spoke with renewed acidity, her pride overcompensating for its being shattered so swiftly, "What could you possibly do to help me..? And why ever would you want to? You're a Shadowed. Just like him.."

After much nausea and great discomfort, the young Opaline dragon began to sleuth for any sort of clue as to what was behind this. Mere moments had passed before she discovered that her suspicions were correct and that a Frost Dragon was behind the attack. She immediately felt disgusted by the thought of a member of her own race doing such a wretchid thing. Nevertheless, Karasu remained focused and continued the search, as Frost Dragons despise warmer climates and would require provocation to travel so far south. So the question was now: What provoked it? Her nose to the dirt, she was able to escape the pungent smell of frozen flesh long enough to discover a new scent: Elf. For a moment, the thought of Yousei entered her mind, though she would not allow her thoughts to stray for very long. Alas, the scent was unique, yet familiar to her. She contemplated this for a moment or so before realizing to whom it must have belonged: Witium. Indeed, it was he who must have led the Frost Dragon south to tear this village to shreds.. But why...? She couldn't believe it. Her good friend and ally, someone in whom she had put her faith and trust, reduced to something as filthy, and as lowly as this.. ~It was Witium,~ Karasu spoke solemnly as she slowly made her way back to their campsite.

Yousei furrowed her brow at the sight of his grin, and as he spoke, she realized that she had been caught. Her ivory pallor swiftly acquired a rosaceous tinct and she turned away. As he moved, however, she couldn't help but steal a glance once more. She was entirely fascinated by his effortless discernment of their surroundings. Whilst she watched him turn back toward her, she immediately realized that she had been staring and made sure not to look at him, even as he offered her the blanket. "Right," she said in reply, before she could nod unnecessarily yet again. She then realized that she was being rude in trying so hard to be polite and turned back to face him with a smile as she wrapped the cloth around her person, "Thank you."

"Like him?!" Kraid laughed, shaking his head. "Not at all M'Queen, I'm nothing like him. Look for yourself," Kraid, still laughing, opened up his cloak, showing her the empty space that was his rib cage. "He still has skin," He grinned, "And he can still die." He closed his clothing and held out his hand to her. "You've heard your options, Make your choice."

Miles reached into his bag and produced several bottles. He gasped and grinned, looking them over. Dropping them he looked into his bag again, searching for more. He found a few and nodded, placing one of the two he'd just removed, back into the bag. He opened the bottle and stopped, looking to Mirado, "Care for a drink?"

Witium made his way out of the castle and soon out of the city itself. As we walked in contemplation the elf considered what he would do if the queen didn't comply. In the end he set upon the idea of simply exterminating the cities inhabitants and replacing them with elves. Soon Witium found himself outside the city gates to find his scaly friend coiled around a tree lying under its shade, "Its time we head to Talik in the black Woode. We've got to find someone very special."

The dragon simply let out a snort and uncoiled itself; ready for the elf to jump on.

Witium sat upon his large dragon and pointed toward the distant wood. The dragon then lurched forward like a rocket toward their destination. Countryside wisped by in a blur as they sped towards the Black Woode and its maze of trees. The elf spoke loudly to the dragon as wind streamed through his ears, "We're going to have to be inside the woode, not above it or I won't be able to know where I'm going!" Once the dragon entered the thick woode it did not go above the tree line, but twisted and turned like a roller coaster to avoid trees. If Witium didn't have such a death grip on the dragons scales he'd fly right off. Tree branches and limbs flew everywhere as they plowed their way through the forest as quickly as possible. Their travel made one heck of a racket.

"Sure, throw one over," Mirado answered listlessly. He could use a drink. Maybe it'd help him get rid of this unsettling feeling. He outstretched his arm in preparation to catch.

Miles grinned and released the bottle in his right hand, before it could fall too far he caught the neck. Spinning and upending the bottle, he tossed it over to Mirado, Shifting the other to his now free hand. "Sit, enjoy yourself, could be a while," He nodded to the fire, turning his attention to it and uncapping his bottle.

"Thanks." Mirado caught the spinning bottle with his right hand and proceeded to uncap it with his left. He stared at the bottle for the moment, gazing into his blurry reflection. It wavered in the fire light. He gently swirled the bottle's contents around and then took a big sip.

"So, Miles... How do you think all the others are doing? There were quite a number of people with us back at that village."
PostPosted: Fri Mar 28, 2008 8:27 am
Miles took a drink and turned his head to Mirado, shrugging. "I'm sure they're alright, We've seen much harder times than these," He nodded, taking another drink. "The only one I'm really worried about though, is Yousei. I haven't seen her since our friend died, I have no idea how she's doing," He frowned, staring into his bottle. He jerked his head up and looked to Mirado grinning, "But anyway, What about you? I don't know a thing about you save for your name."

"Me?" Mirado took another sip from the bottle. "I've... been traveling by myself for some time now. I used to travel with two others, but we've gone seperate ways. Now I just wander from place to place..." He took another sip.
