It's a glitch. No useable item cannot be used (i.e. Pink Giftboxes, Giftwrapped Items, Trunks, X-mas Presents, etc.)

Ok, thanks. I figured it was either that or you couldn't open them till Xmas.

Woah, woah! Hold up! I dont understand, how do you do carolling? I t sounds like fun but I don't know how!

You can only carol from noon 'till evening, and to do it, there's a button in the right hand side of the sceen in the stores that says "Sing a Carol", or something like that, and you click it. After caroling to 5 different NPCs you get a present. Each NPC gives you a different present, so what you have to do to get all the presents is make sure that you 5th NPC you carol to is the one you want to sing to. Only problem is that it takes 10 minutes to be able to sing between NPCs.
