Since GaaLee is my ultimate favorite pairing I'm doing one for the sake of GaaLee fangirls! SHO NUFF!
However this is kinda angsty so you have been warned!
There was something about holly berries that made Lee nervous.
He was aware of their poisonous properties, Sakura had filled him in on poison for his missions. He was aware of the sharp protective brambles that stung and scratched those attempting to pluck at the berries. He was comepletly aware. But it wasn't what the holly was.
It was what it reminded him of.

Gaara was always confused about holly berries.
They always looked so alluring to taste, and yet they poisoned you rotten. They always attempted to protect their berries, when all they were was death and pain. Gaara never understood them. Well, not completly.
They were like someone he knew.

Even when Lee knew of Gaara's terrible defense and his even more terrible personality, he was attracted to him. He was a determined character, who hated to lose things, even if they were barely useful or important. Lee had been so desperate to have someone, anyone, to care about, when what he had wasn't enough. Gaara was alluring, the red hair was that same beautiful blood red color as holly berries that soothingly lured you to your death. Lee could not deny it.
Gaara was as deadly as he was irresistible to Lee.

Gaara is wondering if Lee is a fool, for loving something as dangerous as him and knowing that danger. It drove him crazy; how dangerous he appeared to be, without being so dangerous at all. And that smile, that smile that you just had to trust, even if Lee wasn't trustful at all. And green, Lee was as green as the sharp leaves that clung desperately to holly berries, even when they had no use at all. He'd cling to something as dangerous as Gaara, despite the death that could fall upon him if he tasted Gaara's own poisonous self. Gaara knew it.
Lee was as meek as he was desperate for Gaara..
