omg, then I think I know how to solve it. Please try and follow. Okay:

Gay is a term for a homosexual male so then it must be a guy in your school who is upset orver something. And if he is upset with your friend for flirting with this guy, he onbviously likes this guy. So, he was either friends with this girl who you said has the handwriting that matches the handwriting on the note. Or he's like a relative or something or he's rich and promised her a reward or she doesn't know he's gay and she likes him. Okay. So now you narrow it down to a list of all the guys in your class, and then pick out the ones who are friends with Jim. Then find the close ones and pursue them. And then pursue the loner ones who want to be like Jim. And then pursue the group of guys who gossips the most. If that doesn't help you can take it out on me.

Gay doesn't necessarily have to be a term for a homosexual male. Some people also use it as a term to decribe homosexual females. Just because Lesbian is used to describe a female homosexual, doesn't mean that gay can't be used too.
