Hi, A few questions. What are the benefits of breeding? I want to make this a simple breeding Faq thread. "BREEDERS INPUT APPRECIATED" 3nodding

The biggest benefit is getting moves on your baby Pokémon that otherwise they could not have learned, or now can learn MUCH earlier.

For example: Male Medicham (Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, Fire Punch, Psychic) + Female Kadabra = Baby Abra with Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, Fire Punch, and Psychic.

Male Chinchou with Surf and Spark + Female Barboach=Baby Barboach with Surf and Spark.

My charmander on Crystal knows Flamethrower, swift, and MegaPunch, and he's only lv 5! blaugh

AND.....sometimes bred pokés get better advantages, such as higer defense/attack/spec./ect. They usually have higher HP, too. 3nodding

Fox Demon is right, the bred pokemon do have higher stats. It's easier to understand this if you know a thing or two about EV-training. Here's an example:

Wild Bagon in Meteor Falls is at level 30 when you catch it, some of its EVs have already been used. Bagon that has been bred in the daycare centre has no EVs, so you can max out any stat you want. This is good for certain types where you might want one stat extremely high, you can focus solely on raising that stat.

Not to mention how incredibly fun it is to watch those cute lil' eggs hatching. whee

In all honestly, breeding is a very tedious process if you want the perfect Pokémon.

Correction, pokémon caught in the wild have no EVs no matter their level. breed pokemon will seem to have higher stats when raised the normal way because the get more stat experience from having to battle more to get to the same levels as the pokemon caught at higher levels. Stat EXP. also known as EVs are hidded statistics for your pokemon that are used to calculate their stats, there is one for each stat and it goes up after winning a battle with a pokemon that has that EV, they can still be raised even after level 100 but they do max out, so don't worry about catching lower level or unevolved pokemon, stats are not affected by such things as timing of evolution. Vitamins also give EVs.

Here are some breeding tips:
The baby will be the lowest form of the mother, with these three exceptions, illuminess will randomly produce illuminess or volbeat babies, wobbafet needs lax incence equiped during breeding to create wynat, and marril/azumarril needs sea incence to produce azurill.
Egg moves, every pokemon has a list of egg moves, if the father knows an egg move in the baby's list then the baby will know it.
TMs and HMs, that were used on the father and can be used on the baby will be known by the baby.
Also, if BOTH parents know a move that the BABY can learn by level up without evolving, then the baby will know it too.

I recently breed a pair of high level heracross and now have 12 level 5 heracross with the same moveset on all of them: Megahorn, Brick Break, Endure, and Reversal. This was done so that I could get a good level 50 heracross with megahorn, despite learning megahorn at level 53. There are many pokemon for which this method is effective, also, you can use this method if you want a move that the unevolved form learns past the evolution level you need to get an adult move you want. For instance, let us say you want an umbreon with baton pass but don't wan't to miss out on confuze ray? Simple, breed two eevees which both know baton pass and work hard for a speedy evolution at night.

Point of detail: Ditto can count as the mother, but the baby is always the species of the Pokémon bred with Ditto. This is how you can breed things with no gender, like Magnemites, and Hitmon-whatevers, which are always male.
