Races

Dwarves

Mitharim ("Metalfolk") are the main dwarven clan in the area, producing a great deal of ore and metal work, as can be seen by their name. The Mithralrotrumerons (Mithralrotrumerons, as the mountains are called in the dwarven tongue) are rich in mithril, naturally, but also in iron, lead, copper, and other industrial ores. The main Mitharim city-cavern, the famous Kor Mithrid, is located somewhere near the source of the Mashdai River which flows into the Adanian Sea. It is the oldest dwarven settlement on Caelereth, according to the ancient Thergerim histories and engravings. Occasionally a traveller along its banks may see large barges going down to Chrondra and Marcogg, laden with ore-bags stamped with the Mitharim runes.

Woodland ELVES

They are the most common of elvenkind. They usually wear greens and greys to blend with their surroundings. Sandy hair and light blue, green or grey eyes complement their rustic demeanour. They are adept to moving silently and their presence in in the woods goes unnoticed among the shadows of swaying branches.

Elves in general are slender and tall in appearance, but unlike at the human race this is valid for both sexes. They usually reach the same size as male humans do - approx. 6"0 -, however, according to their delicate bodies they seem much taller than they really are. In comparison to humans elves are stronger in spirit and in limb and have an exceptional constitution and endurance. When they grow older they seldom get weaker, instead they become wiser and even more fair. Elven senses, especially of hearing and sight, are much keener and intense than those of Men and are highly resitant to extremes of temperatures and also have several natural defenses against magical influences.

Brownies

Laid out end-to-end, a little bit less than seven Brownies make a foot, on average. Their skin comes in all the shades of a tree bark, with matching hair and eyes, and they have a somewhat angular look, having high cheekbones and a rawboned but lithe build. They are strong for their size, highly energetic and very agile, with a tendency to be mischievous.

Fylja

Fylja vary in appearance as they take the form of various beasts. Most frequently mentioned are the shir, the boar, the bear, and some type of feline such as the pard or herin. However, bird forms such as the raven and corbie, or the toran eagle, have also been named as Fylja. In their beast form, they are indistinguishable from an ordinary animal, save for the uncanny brightness and focus of their eyes. They will stare at a person and meet their gaze as no real beast would ever do. They also retain their intelligence and are thus portrayed as cunning thieves, dangerous adversaries, and excellent trackers.

In their human shape, though, they are said to have certain characteristics by which one may remark them. They are often strikingly-haired, not only of head or face, but also of body. Fine hairs may grow on their extremities: on the tops of the feet the backs of the hands, and, some say, in tufts between the toes and fingers. The ears point somewhat more than a human’s, both upward as in a maelf (half-elf) and outward as some gnomish ears do. The philtrum, or cleft between upper lip and nose, is often strongly demarcated, even to the point of being darker like a cat’s muzzle. A Fylja’s eyes are also striking, usually mentioned as ‘green’ or ‘golden’, though sometimes a dark amber, or even ‘turkoise’.

Some stories say that they have tails even in human form which they must conceal under long skirts

Gnomes

A Gnome's size is ranging from slightly less than a foot all the way through to one and a half feet. However, the bigger sizes are rare and are seen as freaks by some of their race. Gnomes have long fingers that virtually never tremble and as such are brilliant for their jobs as alchemists. They have normal sized eyes but their eyesight is in fact excellent and they can see very small things pretty well. Their skin tone is very pale and they are not very muscular (but as in every race there are some body-building exceptions). Gnomes tend not to be exceedingly fat, most young gnomes are relatively thin, but as they get older most of them do put on weight. Although they do start off with hair (the current fashion is to have it cut very short) by middle age they tend to be bald although many do maintain beards (again the current fashion is short). Hair is often black, although occassionly there will be a dark brown haired Gnome. Females never have beards but most lose their hair by middle age. They wear their hair longer than the men, although the loss of hair is not considered to detract too much from their looks (at least by other gnomes).

Orcs

Although the appearance of Orcs varies from tribe to tribe orcs are generally slightly smaller than men but with more muscular bodies. Their skin and eye color varies from gray to brown or green and from yellow to red. Their eyes often seem to glow at night and it is said that they have an exceptional night vision.

Orcs might have the highest endurance of all races except for dwarves and due to their good noses are able to track their prey over long distances. Their noses are broad and flat, even snout-like, the ears are usually pointed like at elves but bigger and their broad jaws hosts terrible fangs and sharp teeth.

Ogres

Ogres are about 8 to 9 feet tall with very broad shoulders and long, muscular arms. Their skin varies from gray to light brown depending on the territory. Their heavy skull supports the muscles of a strong jaw that hosts a row of long, sharp teeth, capable of biting a junk of flesh and bones out of their prey. With their long arms Ogres can still walk on two feet like humans, however, whenever running or hunting they can be seen on all fours, then exceeding even the speed of a fast horse on short distances through the forest.

They do not really wear cloth but only decorate their body with signs of their strength and skill. Skulls and ears from fallen enemies, hides from prey and other insignias are signs of an old and experienced Ogre. Normally they also cover their skin in mud to protect it against parasites and claim the dominance over a certain territory. They favour red clay to color themselves in a bright and recognizable color. When attacked or surprising someone Ogres often use clubs or huge bones as weapons which widen the range of their already deadly strength

Trolls

Trolls are among the largest of the giant races, second only to the Ogres themselves, and are feared for their frightening appearance. They stand at an average of 6 to 8 peds at the shoulder, with the females being shorter and more slender than the males. The shoulders of the males span over a foot in width, and are normally covered with bulging muscles developed during their violent lives in the wilderness. Appearing almost delicate compared to the males, though their strength surpasses most males of any other race, the females have round curves that somewhat resemble those of a human female and their shoulders are not quite as broad as those of the opposite gender. Though Trolls are known to exhibit some shame, females do not attempt to cover their breasts which sag more than those of human females. Trolls rarely walk completely upright, preferring to hunch their shoulders and lean forward slightly as they walk. Whenever they are hunting, or simply running, Trolls move on all fours and have been known to run as swiftly as wolves.

Their facial features could be compared to that of a human, if said human were grotesquely disfigured. A long bulbous nose protrudes from a Troll's faces and resembles the snout of a beast more than anything else. Their ears are exceedingly long, often reaching a fore in length though their width is only a third of that. Thick tusks curl out of the corners of their mouths, growing on either side of the lower row of teeth. The eyes are small compared to the rest of their features, and a spark of intelligence can be seen lurking within. Females wear their hair in long greasy braids or twisted, knotted 'troll-locks' that often descend slightly beyond their waists. Males are not as concerned with grooming and simply wear their hair loose. The hair and skin color is determined by the heritage of a Troll and varies depending upon the tribe.

The fashioning of clothes is beyond the Trolls' technological capability as a race, and they are often seen in simple loincloths crafted from animal hides. Only the loincloths and their long hair cover their otherwise naked bodies, though they do exhibit discomfort that appears to be shame whenever they are completely nude. Due to their thick skin, Trolls are immune to naturally occurring heat and cold, and they are almost impervious to most weapons. Nails up to three palmspans long extend from their lanky fingers and resemble claws in that they are incredibly sharp
