I love chopin, specially his preludes, nocturnes and polonaises. I also like his songs very much, and it's a pity that one doesn't hear them very often confused

Mmmm the 3rd Sonata. One of the only pieces by him I've actually heard in person.
I nearly died so many times throughout it.

Chopin was an absolute genius. Many of his pieces are beautiful, but some of my favorites are Prelude Op. 28 No. 15 "Raindrop", Fantasie Impromptu Op. 66, and Nocturne Op. 55 No. 1 ^-^

One of my favorite experiences in learning piano was learning to play the 3rd sonata. It's such a pleasing piece all around. And the polonaise-fantasie is beautiful...but it's so incredibly difficult to hold it together and make it sound musical sometimes >.< maybe it was just difficult for me... emo

Yeah the 2nd sonata is overplayed in part and not enough people even know that those parts are form a sonata or even that they are Chopin. I like all Chopin but my favs are probably.
Etude Op.10 No.12 "Revolutionary"
Waltz Op.64 No.2 In C-sharp minor
Polonaise In A "Military"
Allegro de Concert (if you haven't heard it you should)

Well, in less than a week I will be performing Chopin's first ballade in my piano recital, and I have to say, it is a spectacular piece. Hard as hell to play, but it is so wonderful.
What I love most about his works is the man's sense of melodic line. And his ability to move it around, and yet still have it be recognizable.
Then again, almost every "great" composer has this ability as well...bah, I just felt like I should ramble a tad.

Why is it that no one wants to talk about his etudes? Shame on all of you...just kidding. xD I'm currently working on Etude No. 25 Opus 1 in A Flat Maj. and the 34th one (forgot the opus) in F Major. They're beautiful, but the 34th one is a bit more difficult...technically, anyway.

They're beautiful, but the 34th one is a bit more difficult...technically, anyway. The Etudes are Opus' 10 and 25 so i think you meant op.25 no.1. Also there aren't even 30 etudes so now i really confused what you mean by the 34th? They're are total of 27 etudes by Chopin. 12 in opus' 10 and 25 and 3 Nouvelles Etudes without opus numbers.
