Mmmm Shostakovich. Delicious.
His string quartet no 8 is one of my favourite quartets. To play and to listen to. It's so demented and lovely.
For anyone looking for more lovely demented music, try Benjamin Britten. They were close friends.

Russian composers are my favorite kind! ^-^ Especially Shostakovich, his symphonies are always a treat. Symphony No. 5 FTW!

The Russians have all the best composers. XP Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Shostakovitch, Mussorgsky...
I love Shostakovitch's music. Played "Galop", arranged for band, at a concert recently. Literally only had a week to work on it, but that was a really fun week.
There was a trio that he wrote, too, for clarinet, oboe, and piano. I can't remember but it was called, but it was really haunting and creepy. Loved it. =D
