[Noi] That's a dirty lie. You know you love me. Dammit. You're right. emo
Kaitlin// It's not that we were unprepared, we were just blindsided. The wind was blowing really hard [ which I'm used to, because Vegas got them a lot. ] That and Louisville has no mandate about trees and powerlines, so it's really easy for the power to die if a tree were to say, lose a branch?

I hope trees don't lose too many branches then. D: Also, when I said the should have prepared themselves, I was making a lame video game joke. >.o

The tree across the street is now sawdust, and our neighbor's cropping his tree too.
Along Bardstown Road [ Which just so happens to be one of the BUSIEST streets here ] a tree actually fell, forcing the road to be shut down, then detoured us into an are that was.....pretty much worse for wear. there was a tree that had been uprooted sidewalk and all against a house, the transformer poles had snapped in half...
It's just crazy.

We've never really had hurricanes over here, maybe the odd 1 or 2. But nothing like what you guys get. We did have some horrific storms last year though. There was major flooding in some parts of the country, and alot of people lost their homes. Trees were uprooted and roads closed. That's probably the worst storm I've seen.

What Indu said on the page beforeeee~ D: It's hot here, although Ike blew us some cooler weather, which is nice for us, but no so nice for the people that it hit. =/
I miss the snow storms we used to get when I still lived in the mountains. The blackouts kind of sucked if they lasted more than a week and a half, but back then was when my brothers still played cards and the neighbor kids would come over and play.
D< I never could win at goldfish though.....

My brother and his wife live in Houston got me and my mom all worried about them :T they were without electricity for days, so had to make lots and lots of barbecues so the food wouldn't go to waste xD
There's no hurricanes in Brazil, so I have no idea what he and he's wife have been thru but it probably wasn't pleasurable :T

I live in Pasadena with my aunt and we stayed. We border Houston and Galveston is a straight shot down I-45S and we are there in 30-45 minutes. I will say that I was not too worried about the storm, but it was a b***h when it came through the area. We lost power around 12:30am on Saturday. By then the winds were really whipping up and howling. It sounded so creepy outside. The rain finally started coming sometime after it got dark, it was light at first, the it became pretty heavy. We all had a restless night and in the morning, we went outside. The street was flooded into our driveway and around the area there were trees that are 40 years old, downed like nothing. Fences were knocked down, you had to watch were you stepped because of the flood water and debris. As Saturday continued, the water was out, and the power was gone. We had no way of knowing what was going on in the area around us. We knew Galveston and Bolivier were basically underwater, but we had no idea how bad it actually was until later. By Saturday afternoon all the flood water was gone from out area and people were out cleaning up all the damage. The only damage that my aunt suffered was a lot of her trees lost their leaves.
Now for the fun part, the week without electricity. That suck big time. We got water back by Saturday afternoon, but the power was kaput. We lived by basically lighting the gas range and heating cans of soup or whatever. We lost everything in the icebox and her dogs had a feast. It was bad the first couple of days, then we got a cool front in and it cooled down for a couple of days and made the nights much more bearable. FEMA set up down the street from her house, but we didn't go get anything because we had all we needed and there were others here that needed more help. We were able to get ice and we had stockpiled water and drinks so we were good.
We finally got lights on Sept 19 and the internet and cable on the following monday. It's not the first hurricane my aunt has gone through and it won't be the last. It's the longest she ever went without lights though that freaked her out a bit. She also got sick with a bad headache because of the heat and spent several nights with friends who had power and I went too because I am getting over a car accident and needed to cool off also. I know she got mad because I refused to leave her house and go west to shelter, but I felt better having family around me and not strangers. 4 months in a hospital can do that to you. I am fine though so no worries.
