Yundi Li and Lang Lang are both Chinese classical pianists well known throughout the world. both aged 26, they sustain a strong rivalry with each other in China as well as on the world stage.
I'd like to pose this question: who is the better pianist? why? (and by "better" I mean overall ability ... skill, presentation, and artistry.)

YL plays beautifully, so does LL. They both have a great sense of presence, they both get excellent sound out of the piano. But technically, YL beats LL over the head with a stick :/ I'm sorry, but as much as I like his playing, I feel that Lang Lang takes too many liberties with the music.

My vote's on Yundi Li. His performance of Liszt's B minor piano sonata is sublime.
I couldn't stand watching Lang Lang perform. He does produce beautiful music every now and then, but once I look at his face, I can't do anything but laugh, and that's a total mood killer. I also have to agree with Camusian_Night-terror that he takes too many liberties with the music at times.

ok well I have to say I agree with you guys, especially Wings. yes, Lang Lang's face/expression is a total mood killer. Like if I close my eyes and listen to his playing, some parts are really lovely. But then if I watch his face and movements ... it's just too much to handle.
Yundi Li on the other hand ... his clean, purist playing is just so ... stunning! omg. And the way he presents himself ... so much more elegant and poised, which is the way i think a pianist ought to present himself. After all its not electric guitar, it's classical piano.
so in conclusion ... my vote definitely goes all the way to Yundi Li. =)

Yundi Li is a practically a fraud =_= people walked out of his performance of the Grieg Concerto...it was awful...faked it all the way through...I remember because I was there. Lang Lang is just a showman, with some technical virtuosity. But at least his playing isn't as bad. In other words, Lang Lang > Yundi Li. Though both of them are meh.

I hate being the person to change subject but i would say i prefer Dong-Hyek Lim and Dong-Min Lim. Their technique is beyond amazing.

They are both equaly good! Who dosen't think like that? I would much rather be on both sides than to anger the oposing side. And for the record, I don't know who these people you guys are talking about half the time.

Even though they're both wonderful, and listening to them is very exhilarating. Though I prefer Yundi Li.

I think both artists have certain pieces that I favour. For example, I prefer Yundi Li playing Liszt's Liebestraum over Lang Lang. Actually... in general, I prefer YL heart
