Hey everyone smile

Have you ever had an idea for a guild that you never got around to using?

Even by today's standards, running a guild is a big commitment - if the 20k setup fee has become small change since it was introduced, then certainly the job of maintaining an active community has grown more difficult.

I've had a few ideas for guilds over the years that I never found the time to get started with.

I thought we could use this thread to get some of these kinds of ideas out in the open - just for the sake of interest, inspiration or plain amusement. ^^

I'll start: some of my ideas were a guild for discussing leadership, leaders and influence; a Captains' Guild offshoot that specialised more in guild setups or "design"; and Web "creative" guild that would serve as a sort of hybrid of the Graphic Designer guild and some others, spotlighting Web design trends and sharing techniques and ideas.

I had an idea for a Babylon 5 guild... But I could never find enough interest for it in other members. I remember starting a thread to find other fans but only got like... two replies. It was sad.

I also had a non-Harry Potter wizard guild (because HP is great and all, but there are more to wizards than just that), but that was kind of forced onto me and then never went anywhere. sweatdrop

I know when I first joined gaia I was supporting a soon to be Ronin Warriors guild, but again, I guess it never got off the ground. Sad, really.

I think the leadership guild would take off. It'd just be a matter of finding the right people.

For me, it's an economics guild or a world politics guild.

The economics guild would be too much of a niche. I guess I'm happy enough with one of my contacts on Gaia and more recently, with reading WindowOpener's posts and journal for its application in the Gaia world.

About the latter, majority of the politics guilds around here are extremely American-focused or at best, very first world-focused especially in terms of news sources. As someone who doesn't have enough knowledge on this topic, I don't feel confident about starting such a guild at all.

Hm... Yes, we Americans are very self centered at times. xd

What I would suggest for a world politics guild is to try and find gaians from different countries to help with posting news from their sources. I know while I was traveling, it was much easier to keep up with news in the country I was in. Except when I was in the Philippines, where even the armed coup-d'etat one district away only earned a passing mention at my host family's house because of the traffic it caused. xd

You know, with the recent changes in tags and what not, I did a search for Bablyon 5 guilds. There were actually a couple of them. xd They were started much more recently than the last time I searched for them though.

Your suggestion about recruiting people from different countries might work. But it still boils down to the idea-maker (me) not having the confidence in knowledge to create such a guild. However, if someone else starts it - and by all means feel free to steal my idea! - I'd definitely like to receive an invitation and join.

The white background of the guilds is very, very old. I was thinking that there should be optional background colors. (not having to do with BB codes) And, the way that the guilds are organized. . . Changes are really needed. There should be optional styles.

I wanted to try and make a D&D style RPG, but more sci-fi with fantasy elements, but it went down between the other creators and I, so it failed.

Now I'm working with a story that is heavily focused on planetary salvation and elementalism. We're goig to try and split it up into 5 guilds, keeping a focus on the story at diferent parts of the planet all at the same time. Complicated, but plausiblein my eyes.

whee whee

One of the subtle hopes of this thread was that we'd get to see if any of our ideas sparked interest, and maybe be motivated to finally give them a shot. smile

I'll try to start planning a guild 'design' kind of place... although I might just end up taking over the Guides subforum in the mean time. ninja

I really like the world politics idea. heart I love American politics, of course. Yes, it's everywhere, and that's not because Americans are self-centred, it's just because there's so many of them on the internetz. whee

But I'd really love it if there was somewhere I could talk about Australian politics with people on Gaia, since that's what I'm closest to. And it would be nice to get a flavour of other overseas political topics as well. ^^

Well, if you do put the guild design thing into action, I'd like to receive an invitation.

As for the world politics thing, I'm still iffy. It's not so much that there is a huge American demographic online as the fact that other countries don't seem as vocal about politics (I mean... look at Canada). Still, along with American politics, the incorporation of Canadian and Australian politics... even European politics would be so heavily first world-oriented that I'd find it a complete turn off.

Definitely! 3nodding

It's generally acknowledged in Australia (it's come up specifically in my Australian Politics class in fact) that the electorate is largely apathetic about politics. Political junkies like me are exceptions to the rule.

Besides my obvious bias towards discussing Australia, I'd be equally interested in talking (mainly learning from others) about politics in developing nations. If you start a properly global politics guild, plz invite me. whee
