I live in Florida, Brevard county to be exact, and they said they were cutting sports and music. It brought up such a ruckus last year. Turns out we still have then this year, and the next, and the next.

I've heard about this, and it is an outrage! Music and fine arts is more than a class to a lot of students. It's a life lesson. Before band(I'm sorry to say) I was a lazy bum that only did the minimum in life. Then I discovered the widl specimen called the band directer. He was evil, cruel, mean, hardworking, and worst of all *gasp* caring. I mean music and fine arts let kids spend their time productively, let them discover themselves. To take away these classes is pretty much taking away the kids personality. I'm glad it won't happen at our school though. Anybody who would dare cut the band program would face the wrath of my BD. Plus if it weren't for band most of my band buddies would be bored and set the school on firs. *shrugs*

We don't have as many hours in one music class than the other high schools in our county. The other high school's took the initiative to make one music class once a day. One music class in once a day.
And our school isn't very supportive of us either, most of the instruments are as old as the school itself. And if you're thinking 'yeah, that's what are school is going though, they just need to save up money' The school just bought an AstroTurf field and football equipment while we, of course, received nothing.
I don't understand while that not giving us a chance, to help us out. We are a group of well educated kids with the gift of music. They are choosing to help a bunch of kids who would love to just drop out as soon as they get cut from the team for smoking weed behind the school.

In my school, there's a pretty decent music program, but only because I live in Kanawha County in West Virginia where there's a decent budget and there's Capitol High School, which is a pretty big art magnet school. Big enough that it was selected to do Phantom of the Opera and was one of the only two schools in the county to do it or something.
Unfortunately, by 'pretty decent', I mean there's a good bit of classes to choose from - guitar 1, guitar 2, choir (all taught by the same guy who doesn't know what the ******** he's doing), band & everything that goes with a band and intro to music theory (all taught by a rather badass guy), and some guy brought in from a local university to teach a strings class.
Its cool and all, but at the same time, the problem is hardly that music programs are being cut in schools and such. The problem is that America is trying to make an educational system to produce as many engineers as possible when the reality is that very few people are intelligent enough to be innovative in that field and that by forcing this kind of educational system, you're completely screwing the creative kids who can't really function in a math & science based educational system.

Yeah my school might be cutting the already low music programs we have due to budget cuts. I swear to whatever it is I can swear on, if they cut our music program I will go down to whoever made that happen and cut him. Plus since we just got an addition to the school, we have to wait a while to get some decent equipment.
