svalur Hm, that's pretty cool. I didn't know the type of keys made a difference. I've learned so many random facts from you in this guild and BNG hahaha. sorry, i didn't specify. i meant the plating of the actual instrument. like silver/nickel plated saxes or trumpets. but yes, the plating on the keys affects how it sounds as well. usually the higher quality(which usually means heavier) the materials are, the better the instrument will vibrate and therefore sound. how the keys on clarinets and such vibrate actually affect the sound.

I almost bought a white cello of Ebay. I didn't do it though. The price was right, but I just wasn't sure about the quality.
One of my orchestra friends had a pink violin though. She couldn't use it regularly because the tuning pegs wouldn't stay in place.

those instruments are fiberglass. There is also a clear fiberglass one. it's pretty neat, but you do sacrifice the quality. They're great if you want an acoustic sound in your band/what-have-you instead of an electric one. I think cello-bands like ra ra riot, rasputina, de jesus, and apocalyptica use them. And of course there is a huge variety of electrics, which i really want.
edit: also, kanon wakashima uses them in her music videos. I think she has a red and a white one.

I wouldn't change the colour of my flute if it was possible razz I'm not really a fan of colourful instruments razz When my school had a band, There was a kid with a lime green clarinet, and I thought it looked horrible!! I just don't see how you could be taken seriously with a green cello or a purple violin.

I would never actually buy one of these without trying them out but I LOVE the look of a cherry red brass trombone! I'm sure it greatly affects the tone which worries me a little and which is also why I'd be skeptical to buy one, but come on, IT LOOKS SO COOL!

I've recently worked with a student tenor saxophonist...and his instrument was a bright red. Rather unexpected...even the examiner commented on it, lol.
