Being a n00b to the genre, I was wondering if all y'alls could tell me something about it. If you know a song, some interesting fact, notable artists, or something, anything at all, post it here!

Hm.. First off, there's many different types of techno. Short List I can think of;; Techno House Breakbeats Electronic Trance Hard trance Hardstyle
Someone else may have a better list.
One popular song I'm sure you've heard is, "Pretty Rave Girl" by DJ S3RL DJ S3RL is one of my favorites.
You've probably heard of the group Daft Punk. Good group. but I'm not into them at all anymore >.>;;
Basshunter is good as well.
My favorite artist/song changes from day to day and as my mood changes. Some days I'm absolutely into techno, others I'd much rather something else.

Irako of the Desert Being a noob to the genre, I was wondering if all yalls could tell me something about it. If you know a song, some interesting fact, notable artists, or something, anything at all, post it here! some good places to start: http://www.myspace.com/mdslktr - german god's of every form of electronic music ever, period. http://www.myspace.com/apparat - german god of IDM http://www.myspace.com/moderat - the combination of the above 2, probably the greatest electronic group to ever exist www.myspace.com/80kidz - japanese electro http://www.myspace.com/crystalcastles - toronto, brought bit-pop/electro-thrash mainstream http://www.myspace.com/heartsrevolution - epic LA (my home town) dance and electro girl/guy group, love these guys to death http://www.myspace.com/m83 - multinational shoegaze/dance pop group, has gone through multiple changes, every album is very different --many many more, check out the "kitsune" record label and "Bpitch control" record label also "deadmau5" and "rex the dog" if you want minimal techno, more of a throwback to the detroit techno days of late 80's early 90's (but much better) ...god i could go on all day mrgreen

Japan probably has the best Techno music. Or at least some of it. Also Otaku Hard Core Revolution is the biggest techno event of the year (at least for me). But, it's all in Japanese.

Irako of the Desert So I keep hearing 'trance'. Why's it called that? Trance is called trance because it can induce a trance with its building up and down throughout a track. Like Shamans beating on drums for a long time... they begin to induce a sort of trance.

LordKhrima Japan probably has the best Techno music. Or at least some of it. Also Otaku Hard Core Revolution is the biggest techno event of the year (at least for me). But, it's all in Japanese. European Techno is the best. Don't get me wrong, The Japanese have their good part of it and have good Japanese Techno producers. . .
But compared to the European Techno/Electronica/House/Trance artists. They can't hold a candle. (:
