I need to know just any kinds of basic rules or suggestions for doing this. Things like what time/key signature to use, any sort of information about tune, rhythm, melody or chords, tempo--anything. Thanks to all in advance.

Johnny T I need to know just any kinds of basic rules or suggestions for doing this. Things like what time/key signature to use, any sort of information about tune, rhythm, melody or chords, tempo--anything. Thanks to all in advance. Make a hook. That's important. Add at least 5 seconds of hardcore, and some form of acceptable instrumental pause where there's only a vocalist and the drums going.

I think I may have been a bit unclear. The theme, I'm planning on it being doable by just me + software simulating instruments...More or less, something you'd expect in a video game or a TV show (while the characters have their little monologues). I could do anything from a MIDI like in Megaman or Doom, to a really bad-a** theme like L has (from Deathnote). Just some general info, mostly I'm looking for what Key signatures would be acceptable, but everything else would be a great help, too.

If you're going for something slower or moderate pacing, use 4/4. Something faster, use 8/8. Really, just play around with what you think is best! :3
