Spanish Lesson 1: Introductions Part 2

Hopefully you have memorized most of part 1, but if you haven’t that’s quite alright. In this section you’re going to learn to introduce and respond.

Of course we remember that when greeting someone it’s common to say “how do you do?” or “how you doing” or “how are you?” or “nice to meet you.”

Mucho Gusto (moo-cho goo-stoh) It’s a pleasure to meet you (although it literally means “plenty of pleasure/taste)

(Yo) soy… (yoh soy…) I am…without the “yo” it’s I’m

Of course that was a greeting I forgot to add to part 1 lesson 1. My bad. Lol.
But now let’s learn how to respond.

Muy Bien (moo-ee be-ehn) Very good

Asi-Asi (ah-see ah-see) So-so

Muy Mal (moo-ee mahl) Not so good, Not good (literally means very bad)

Gracias (grr*ah-see-ahs) Thank you

Igual/Igualmente (ee-guahl)/(ee-guahl-men-teh) Same here, Same to you too

Now let’s put this into a conversation, including what you’ve learned in part 1.

Juan: “Hola. ¿Cómo Estás? Me llamo Juan.”
(o-la. ¿coh-moh ehs-tahs? meh yah-moh Juan.)
Juan: “Hello. How are you? My name is Juan.”

Nancy: “Muy bien, gracias. Yo soy Nancy.”
(moo-ee be-ehn, grrah-see-ahs. yoh soy Nancy.)
Nancy: “Very good, thank you. I am Nancy.”

Juan: “Mucho gusto Nancy.”
(moo-cho goo-stoh Nancy)
Juan: “It’s a pleasure to meet you Nancy.”

Nancy: “Igualmente.”
(ee-guahl-men-teh)
Nancy: “Same here.”

Alright people. Practice this until you can say it as if you already know how to speak it!
*rr – the r’s in every word is rolled (kind of like a cat purr)
**H- the h at the beginning of every word is silent
