Religion's Impact on Economics

In my AP Macroeconomics class, we had to list a bunch of inventions that we thought were important. One group said that religion was one of those "inventions." And the teacher had a about several minutes talking about how religion could affect economics.

Because religions have a moral system, certain things in a society are restricted such as nudity on television and etc. Well America has a flexible moral system because of the porn industry which makes tons of money. In other countries, that are super conserved such as Afghanistan/Iraq/Middle East's beliefs are they dont' even allow the women to show their face.

Ok so we do know that religion does have an impact on the economy.
What are some things that religion thinks is not "moral" but would be beneficial for creating a more productive economic system.

Although, my econ teacher is a conservative. His explanation of it explains why I am liberal. I mean when I think of liberals, I think of people that will be a more accepting/open minded about new inventions. While the conservatives on the other hand may think it's not good to have a certain invention because it's not "moral."

I don't know if I was creating this thread as a discussion or something I decided to point out that religion has a way of not accepting "new" radical ideas that may in fact help the economy.

Just talk about anything that deals with religion and economics : )

Like what are some things that religion has protested against? (it could be anything and do not restrict it to the United States but other countries as well)

How would that certain invetion help boost the economy?

Would a tax on Marijuana be beneficial?
Would prostitution?

Yes on marijuana, yes on prostitution. Big time. Not to mention how some conservatives feel about gambling, and that's the biggest business there is in some places (just not Ohio evil ).

Also, three words for you: Stem. Cell. Research.

It took waaaaay too long for this to be accepted, and it has so much potential to rocket-launch medical research, and medicine is big business.

Of course taxes on mary and prostitution would be beneficial! But I find prostitution a slightly different problem...
Because you see, making it fully legal means supply is smaller than demand. Can you imagine prostitute schools? I am not a specialist and I know only about my country, where many women are still forced to do it and so. That's just my basic intuition on this.
