I've been commenting on everyone else's topics. So, I guess I'll post my own. Learning ricochet for scene de balletand it's kicking my butt. My problem areas are

1.) finding the best place in the bow to start it (you can listen to prof. recording's or watch youtube; most tempi are sim. && will be how fast I take it)

2.) keeping it going/After the first two sets of 32nd notes I lose it completely. It's doing upbow ricochet that's difficult. I'e been doing etudes but my progress is frustratingly slow. Any tips/advice is much appreciated.

de beriots scene de ballet?
anyway
ricochet normally is done around the upper region of the bow; the exact position depends on the dynamics (is it forte? piano?) like piano is close to the top and forte is closer to the middle and yeah
also just relax ur hand. just let the bow bounce on its own (and make sure to start with the bow a little higher from the strings so it would actually bounce)
practice that a few times down and up on open strings, then apply it to the piece lol
played 7 years so yeah u?

Thanks so much! smile I've been playing for 12. This has been the hardest bowing for me yet. I guess I mostly have to relax and trust that the bow will play the notes in time (or at least that's what my teacher tells me). It's getting there. Hopefully by November/December it will be performance ready.

I chose scene de ballet not for its difficulty, but because I'm working on expanding my bow techniques. I've never done ricochet before and it's relative simplicity as far as the rest of the piece goes, makes it easier for me to focus on that one aspect. But I've since much improved thanks to good coaching and your advice, which I applied to what my teacher was telling me. (She has this karate kid wax-on-wax-off approach so that weeks later I'm like "ooh. That's what you meant." ) whee
