Beautiful Fire

Kirin Roze was sleeping, Isabella sat there crying and shaking with fear, “Mommy? Daddy?” she cried over and over in a hopeless attempt to wake her parents (cold, dead and severely burnt) faces up from their deep, pale slumber. The fire crept closer to her and her dead parents bodies. No matter how much she didn’t want to leave her parents, they were dead and the building was coming down. With a sad squeak of mourning, Isabella got up and ran through the front door as it was starting to collapse as well. Now she was all alone, outside in the freezing winter snow, sobbing as her house was slowly being consumed by the fire.
When Kirin finally awoke, she was dripping with sweat and her eyes were full of tears. But she quickly whipped the tears from her face and put up her guard, there was someone standing in her room.
Kirin quickly snatched-up her knife, and was just as quickly thrown back down onto her bed.
“Relax, it’s just me,” now she recognized the voice, it was Zech, her goofy, blood-sucking friend, who got way to close to death when he tried stuff like that.
“Zech, what are you doing in my room?” Zech was a particularly handsome blood-sucker in Kirin’s point of view. All vamps are built gorgeous, but Zech caught her eye more than any other. He had silver hair that fell a little over his eyes, constantly changing eyes, and, like most all other vamps, extremely pale skin. He was a god in strength, wits and beauty.
As soon as Kirin thought of him like that, she hastily dismissed them so the blood-sucker couldn’t read her mind and make fun of her for being a vampire hunter that thought that way about her prey.
“What? A vampire friend can’t come in to startle his sleeping hunter? You look so peaceful when you sleep,” Zech replied in a sarcastic tone.
“Zech, don’t toy with a hunter that has a witches knife in hand. Especially me,” Kirin warned. Witches knives had a magic embedded in the blade that could easily kill any vampire.
Zech was starting to get heavy on Kirin’s body which made it very hard to think. Kirin kept seeing images of Zech bending down to kiss her in a loving and compassionate way. She often wondered if those were her thoughts or his.
Then Zech, reading her mind, leaned down in a mocking position of her thoughts, and kissed her forehead.
Kirin threw him off with all of her strength, “Zech, I mean it, don’t toy with me,” she said as she picked-up her knife again.
“Fine, alright, alright already. Down to business,” he said in a serious tone. “You have a new assignment from Midnight,” Zech handed her a package with a picture of the vamp, where he lives, and the reward for bringing back his head.
“Oh yeah,” she said as she read the reward, “is there anything else I need to know?”
“Just that there’s a new assassin fro Crimson, and by the reports, she’s pretty good. She’s been killing hunters all around the world. Heck, she would kill her own kind for the right price,” Zech paused, “and you have school, wouldn’t want you to miss the first day.”
“Zech! Why the heck didn’t you wake me up earlier?! Do have any idea who you are messing with?! I could kill you where you stand right now if I really wanted to!” Why did Zech always have to go pissing her off in the mornings? She always seemed to be asking herself that.
“Hey, hey no need to be so cruel. I’m a vamp, you can’t blame me-,” he had just been cut-off by Kirin.
“That is a very good reason to blame you, you parasite!” Zech’s feelings may have been hurt, but he was a vampire and would get over it someday.
Kirin had almost missed the bus but seeing as she had to do stuff faster and with even less notice every day, she was fine. The bus ride was very quiet, but that’s the way she liked her early mornings. When she and Zech got to the head office there was already a guide waiting to show them around the school. The girl looked very young and anxious to get to her classes. Kirin came to the conclusion that the girl was acting this way because she was traveling around a human packed school with a vampire hunter, that because she spent so much time fighting with vampires that the essence that kept humans away was all over her, and there was a real vampire, gorgeous just as the books say, standing right next to her.
The day went on as planned, no one got hurt because of Kirin and Zech being there. Normally at a small school like this one, there would be at least one vampire bounty hunter trying to get rid of her. Kirin was sure that it definitely wouldn’t last very long. By tomorrow there would be word of her and people would get killed.
“Zech, do you sense anything here?” Kirin asked to make sure she wouldn’t be bothered anymore today.
“No, its pretty quiet, only humans,” that was a relief, but their could still be a vegetarian here, they’re harder to notice. Any vampire, whether it was a vegetarian or not would be a threat to even the smallest school.
“Zech there could still be vegetarians here, so keep your guard up. Even a vegetarian would want me dead, I don’t blame them though, and id kills any vamp in a human school no matter how good they claimed to be, it’s my job,” Kirin said matter-a-factly.
“But you wouldn’t kill me,” Zech stated. “You’ve grown too attached to me. Even if I killed this whole school of people, you couldn’t even get near me with that blade; I’m too much like a brother to you, you think I’m like your family,” Kirin knew it was true but it was a weakness that she could never admit to. No hunter showed any kind of sympathy or love for her prey.
“That may be true, but I’d still be the only human that you couldn’t kill, even if you were in a bloodlust rampage,” that was true as well, Zech could insult Kirin all he wanted with her weaknesses but it was all true for him as well. Kirin was like his younger sister, and he loved her as such.
“Looks as if you’re both pretty weak,” a voice came from behind them. Zech got in a protective fighting stance next to Kirin, but once he saw who it was he immediately sat down.
“Ash Crimson, how nice to see you,” Kirin said, her face turning red as he stepped closer and started to talk. Ash is the head of midnight, and very powerful, he was much taller than Kirin and had blue-gray eyes that Kirin just adored, and ash-blond hair that was like starlight.
“It’s nice to see you too Kirin,” he said back, glaring at Zech, who was too embarrassed, and angry that Ash had come to school and listened to his conversation to talk.
“Um, I don’t mean to be rude sir, but what exactly are you doing here? I thought you were in Transylvania, whipping out the last of the vampires there,” Kirin asked, she couldn’t even look at him without turning red as a plum.
“Well I thought it would be a nice surprise for me to be in the same school as you,” he said winking at Kirin. He knew she liked him and took advantage of that, but there was something that even a vampire wouldn’t realize about him, he had a secret love for Kirin that Zech could sense a little bit but it was faint, Ash was very good about shielding his thoughts, but even with that advantage, he felt so strongly about Kirin that he could never completely hide it.
Kirin was smart and was in all senior skilled classes, Ash was a senior so they would have all of their classes together.
