Did you take a look at BLAME? That's where I'm coming from when I picture something like the first post described, but I thought it was intended to be more serious back then. It's a very dark manga, but hard to read, I think I'm going to go back and read it again because there are bits I just didn't get.

And of course, if I'm coming from there, I'm going to sound dark. Okay, you don't want dark, got it, no problem.

I was going to say something about the technology, how that solution seemed to be a compromise that I never really liked, but since Velixsiol likes it then I'll leave it at that.

Right now you've perked my interest. I've been experimenting a little recently with roleplay that is completely non-serious, the other extreme, the opposite of dark roleplay. It's often very light-hearted and funny. Roleplay that is effectively there for the comedy, although I haven't tried combining many other themes, and I wouldn't want to try something like combat on gaia (Have you seen the fanbase? You have, you'll know you wont want to open-freeform combat in roleplay with them.), or other things (We're talking specialist ideas there, since I like to experiment with more than just "Hurr, durr, swords in space!"

Sorry to divert the attention a little bit here, but while we're on the topic I thought I'd make myself clearer by giving an example of an idea I had.

I'm not usually one for zombie apocalypse roleplay, but this is a good idea. Suppose the traditional zombie infestation broke out, as few as 1 in 100 humans survive, all that fluff. But frankly, the zombies aren't that harmful. They're more like an annoyance, like beggars on the street, pigeons or geese, sticky children, something like that. So your average office worker, who is a survivor, gets up and makes himself breakfast, gets in his car, and waves to his zombie neighbours standing around holding rakes the wrong way and trying to drool on one another.

He gets to work, where all his colleagues are zombies. He sits down, only to find a zombie is trying to eat his stapler. He angrily shouts "Away, Fred!" at the zombie, and wrestles the stapler back, "Honestly, no manners." he mutters and gets to work, before trying to get to work. But he soon receives an e-mail from his zombie boss, (Sending e-mails is so easy, even zombies can do it.) "GGrrrrRRaaAaaarrrGGGHhh." it reads. Fred's been called up to the office. He gulps and heads up, helping a fellow colleague (zombie) who seems to be struggling with the elevator button on his way.

He walks into the office, finding his boss steadily gnawing on the keyboard. He forces the keyboard away and sets it down on the table, before waiting patiently. The zombie slouches and occasionally groans between sentences as the worker seems to monologue, "What? You can't fire me, I'm your most productive employee! No, look I know that. Yes. But what about Fred, just now he tried to steal my stapler. I bet they can't wait to get rid of me, they're just playing you against me. No. Right. Fine. I'll pack my stuff up right away. You know what, I was never going anywhere with this job, I don't need you, I want to see the world. I'm LEAVING." he storms out and slams the door, leaving the zombie to clumsily grapple with a nearby office plant.

And that's it, basically, I kind of slipped into roleplay there. The survivors realise everyone else is a zombie, but that's not such a concern, mostly it's just a nuisance. And so, people seem to live with the zombies, or despite them, you choose. It's a pretty pure comedy concept with a little satire mixed in. (Eheh heh.. If you can't read into that then you don't deserve to know.)

I'm not sure if you were aiming for something closer to this, or just something right inbetween (Personally I think you get the worst of both worlds and the best attributes cancel each other out when you go between the two extremes, so I prefer not to.). Get back to me though and let me know what you think.

I've also been mulling over whether to start that concept in a thread in this guild, I'm not certain how well it'd go down. If you can give me feedback on that without changing the topic, that'd be great.

I like it because I did something similar once, but I should point out you should explain why the technology stops working. I can't help you there, as what I did related to magic.

Oh, and as for Rapidity's RP, it's original, but seems too open ended for my tastes. I like to have a goal/conflict of some sort.

Ah yes, that's not too hard to plug onto the end; essentially what I'm proposing is just the idea for the setting in which any basic task becomes a nightmarish and laborious quest.
