In this world, there's everything to lose.

When your home is invaded by a microscopic terrorist aiming to infect your household and destroy everything you hold dear and true; when your whole race is on the brink of extinction, you're ready to join hands with death, and you're preparing to greet your loved ones lost --that is when you have everything to lose. After you lose it, however, is another story.

In a city that's forgotten its name, during a time that's forgotten its year, there live beings who've seen it all: death, murder, and an epidemic like no other. Here, life dangles over an abyss of death that's constantly steaming with sorrow and suffering. The only thing to suspend and support it are lines of thread dyed red by blood. The blood has been violated by Evil man has never known, but will always remember: The Infection.

Nobody really knows why it broke out. It all happened in an instant--bodies piled by the hundred thousands within only the first week of the outbreak. It spread like wildfire, roaring its way atwart the globe at breakneck speed. It seemed like a repeat of the Black Plague, only thousands of times worse. See, the only bodies that were actually piling were the bodies of a very specific sort...it wasn't just anyone who died from this plague, it was only the female population of the race. And it was only the bodies of females with a special condition; women and girls who, at some point in their lives, had lost the rare privilege known as virginity. Sad, but yes--if you were a girl, and by the time of this outbreak had ever had intercourse, you were officially damned to the cuel fate: you were to die of this Infection. More than half the population of mature women, right? It was a pity, in a society where virginity was once mundane and taboo, those without it were the ones who suffered. Ironic, is it not? But a shame nonetheless. Even more so when those who ever mothered children were to die as well ...not all too painlessly, either.

Whether it was some wicked vengeance of the Greek goddess Hera, or just some devious stroke of misfortune, none knew. But was Karma never so cruel as to worsen the circumstances? Answer this: Is your mother a virgin?

Months after the epidemic, when the count of dead bodies had escalated to the millions, it seemed Lady Hardship wasn't finished with her harvest. It seemed she wanted to have a little fun, so she decided to be all the more cinematic about this whole ordeal. While all "Broken" women, the ones who'd lost their maidenhead, were lost to it, men still grasped onto life . . . barely. But their grip on sanity just didn't seem tight enough. When all but the scarcely numbered virgins, the Pure ones, had fallen, the Infection spread with less-deadly and more frightening symptoms. A large number of men, being males who were in their teens and up, seemed to simply lose their minds. Their actions became feral, and their wits fell away along with whatever conscious they had. With inhuman strength and aggression, they terrorized the Untouched (those not Infected) with acts of hideously aggressive violence and murder.

The terror-inflicted Untouched ones banded together in groups who became known as the Averse to stop this madness. Those in these groups worked side-by-side to literally hunt down their fellow brothers and eliminate them as a threat to the world. Only those who were willing to sacrifice the notion of brotherhood found themselves able to join the Averse. But that was the reason they were called "Averse"--they were reluctant to kill their brothers, but they were also against the terror.

Still the circumstances just kept worsening. When some men became Infected in a way that made them revert to their instinctual, aggressive sides, those who were strong-minded--the ones once found to be the thinkers of society--didn't become as manageable. No, they developed into something much worse. Shortly after the Reverted Infected were unleashed, came the Intelligent Infected. These vessels of the disease, unlike the more primitive developments, had the same basic or even superior knowledge of an Untouched human. Their behavior was that of a normal person, but with more of a sick outlook on the lives of human beings. Much like the typical criminal that the world no longer knew, believing that they could live for no one but their own selves and figuring that the choice of killing was for only them to decide as gods.

The reason why the Intelligent were more dangerous was because of their ability to blend with society, acting just like normal people. This was especially a terror when people were yet to find out that these types of Infected existed. When it was realized, it made the job just that more difficult for the Averse; not only would they have to kill their brethren, they would see just what they saw in themselves while they did it--sanity, knowledge, and light.

And light is just what they saw. When someone was Infected, a helpful sign did appear in their eyes. In dim light, one could only tell if another had the Infection by looking at their eyes. If what they saw was glowing red, then it was official. Some claimed that they'd seen a pentagram appear in their eyes, proclaiming the notion that this was indeed the wrath of Satan or some other occult figure. One could never tell truthfully, since anyone who had ever been close enough to tell never survived to say.

By this time, the disease had died down to where it was no longer able to spread by air, but rather more like an STD. Like a true infection that spread from an open wound, saliva, or by other means of activity. When this was realized, even the Reverted Infected were able to use it to their advantage, using it to create more of their own kind. The same went for the Intelligent infected, only their means of action brought on more intricately planned systems relative to battle maneuvers.

With more than half the world's population lost perhaps a year later, be it to the Infection or the Infected, hope has lost its shine in the lives of those who remain. In the city that's forgotten its name, you'll find maybe the last sliver of remaining light as it glimmers for a select few survivors who have only just begun to live their lives in the most unholy and wretched of societies. This is their story.

(Side note: To be Infected-half-human, YOU CAN BE A VIRGIN!) (NOTICE: INFECTED ARE IMMORTAL!)

This is me:

Name: Kira

Age: 16

Sex: Male

Appearance: User Image

Height: 5' 5"

Weight: 102

Type: Infected Half Human

Bio: He was a high school student at an all boy's boarding school when the infection broke out, killing his family without him ever knowing. When the illness reached his school, many boys became infected, he became ill due to the fact he had sex but not with a girl. He is afraid of the dark and is extremely unstabled if looking into the blackness. He doesn't know of his condition because, while the transformation was underway, he broke every piece of glass in the school to hid from himself. When he came through, he was still too afraid to look at himself in the mirror and avoids reflections like the Infection. He feels human and the pentagram in his eye is very dull due to his dominate human nature. He feels like a survivor of the Black Death; around so many dead, and he's one of the few to go to Hell and return.
