I know what you mean. I remember recently a few friends were trying to convince me to hack my Xbox 360, "No one's going to find out, it will be fine" they said... Then a few weeks after MW2 came out... Karma works in interesting ways... twisted

I'm glad they got theirs. I hate when people just steal games that I pay for fair and square.
all thats left is to get all the online hackers, that hack for the sake of having a name on a leaderboard.

The game won't be of much benefit to them if it's not in their language.
All the games here are released in English, i don't know about Belgium and Luxembourg though, because they they speak French for the most part and for some reason people who speak French seem to be too lazy to learn English.

But yeah, i do agree that this isn't really the best solution, because people will download it for sure now.

Now, it's easy to blame it on the developers of R4, but i don't know. They probably found a detour and say it's for "homebrew" purposes only, otherwise it would be banned for sure.

On the other hand, i don't know if R4's impact is that big of a deal. Practically EVERY kid has a DS here, most of em with R4's which their parents bought for them, just because it's a cheap solution. If the R4 wasn't there, most of them wouldn't have bought a DS for their kids in the first place, because games are pretty expensive here and they don't want to spend that much money on it.

Meh, i don't know. It's just frustrating.

Devices like the R4 itself aren't the problem and going after them would take too much time. You have to tackle the distributors of the illegal copies of these games, meaning you have to start shutting down some sites. Hell, I would imagine just by going after a few sites, the intimidation factor would take care of quite a few others. Perhaps even go after a few of the illegal users personally, again just the fact they're doing something would be better than nothing.

While I don't really pirate games, I can understand why people do it.

It's because businesses now treat consumers like crap and they don't even care; all they want is money. In terms of countries that use U.S. currency, you got your average Wii game going to $50 whenever it's released new and $60 for a new 360/PS3 game. The problem is, many games of this price end up being either shitty, mediocre, or way too short of a game to justify the price. The businesses don't care; it still feeds their machine. It's the same thing with movies and music; people are tired of wasting their money on crap and being treated as sheep, so they pirate as a way to say "******** you" to the fat-cats. With the economy the way it is, people can't get jobs to afford to pay for the activities that they love, so of course they're going to go for the option that says they get it for free. Problem is, the industry, developers, artists, etc. will also take the butt of the recession as well if they're not getting compensation for their released works.

One solution is to rent, but guess what? You pay $8.00+ for a game, you play enough of it to decide that you actually like it enough to buy it. Well, you STILL gotta pay for it, and you just ended up spending an additional $8+ on top of the cost to buy the game at it's retail price.

Not releasing a game isn't going to make things better, because pirates are still going to find ways to get it illegally. What companies need to do is lower the price of games to more affordable levels.

Steam is a breakthrough in gaming distribution, IMO. I know I shouldn't be saying this because of how much I was complaining about Steam Support being slow, but that was because I'm an impatient ******** and I need to work on that. They got around to it in about a week and they fixed up my duplicate CD-key problem in a flash. I'm now enjoying GLaDoS's singing and Gordon Freeman kicking Combine a**, and I'm grateful for Steam Support for fixing my problem in a flash once they've gotten around to my issue.

Valve has showed us that making a good portion of your prices more affordable, making killer deals occasionally, and treating your consumers with respect can cause your sales to skyrocket. THAT's what we need more of in the gaming industry...in ANY entertainment industry for that matter.

You should support the companies that make the games and just buy them. It's pretty sick that people never buy a single game and great companies like 2D Boy can go bankrupt because of mother effers like them. I understand pirating to a point because you're poor or because you just want to try a game out, but if that's all you ever do, shame.

Shame.

Shame.

I take some faith in the many statistics that say that the majority of people who pirate something like music end up actually going out and buying the product eventually.

Then again, 98% of statistics are made up on the spot, so I don't have COMPLETE faith in it.

Video games are just not worth stealing. It's not bread or water. It's a video game. If you can't afford it, either rent it, or wait a while. Look at poor Madworld. Amazon has a listing for that game brand new at less than $8 (and no, I still won't buy it Wayne). That's a price any idiot can afford.

Shame.
list of acceptable excuses WITH documentation:

trial - for those who want it IF it has great replay value to them
Poor - send your food stamps to me >_> ITS FOOD OR GAMES NOT BOTH!
test compatability (PC only) like getting crysis to see if your new flamin hot computer can tame that piece of a**. totally understandable.
if you own it. obvious, you bought rights to own the game personally.

some people get PC games cause they might not always want it, you buy a PC game after awhile there is no return policy, not even at wal-mart. which is because of piracy but still if all piracy stopped they still wouldn't change policy.
i miss anything?

What about when it just plain isn't localized, like Mother 3 or the first 3 Starfy GBA games, for example?

...Granted one could just take on the ardrous task of getting it off eBay... I guess otherwise that may fall under the poor bracket.

Then you don't buy it for that price. The game will go down in price, it's just a matter of waiting long enough for the price to drop to a point where you'll buy it.

And no, you don't need the game on day one. If you did, you'd be willing to pay the $50/60 and get the game right away.

Last I checked, the businesses aren't holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy their releases. If something's crap, then don't buy it.

Not to mention, why are you pirating something if it's crap? Why not use that hard drive space for porn something worthwhile instead?

Also, i don't think the Wii has a lot of problems with piracy, or at least not as much as the DS. Most people just don't want to ******** around with the firmware, lose their warranty and there is a chance to brick it.
With the R4 however, you just stick it in and play s**t.

I wonder if the DSi will have updates that disable devices like that.

I have a CycloDS (a similar card), but that doesn't mean I'm a pirate. I mostly use it for music (screw paying for a 8GB player for £150 like everyone else) and the apps. I also put games I own on there and games I have ordered or am about to buy, hence me getting Wario Ware DIY early...
Okay, I admit, I used to pirate. But not any more.
