I recently bought Dragon Quest IX and I like it very much. . . but it's my first Dragon Quest game. Which other Dragon Quest games do you recommend?

I have my doubts about DQIX. Is the multiplayer mandatory?

Anyways I highly suggest DQV (the remake for the DS)

DQIV is supposedly good, but I only played the original for the NES, which is kinda annoying.

And my favorite of them all is Dragon Warrior VII. If you have a PS1 or PS2 and you're lucky enough to come across the game somewhere I highly reccomend that you pick it up. (Yes it is a rare game)

Of Course DQVIII for the PS2. Good, but not near as good as V or VII.

And then there is a wuircky little game for the DS called Rocket Slime. It's more of a Platformer/Real Time Straedgy rather than a RPG, but it is still really fun.

hey metal. is VII ok? ive got it for the psp (psx emulation/popsloader) and ive only been thru a little bit and the beginning bored me to dead. but if its good i might as well play thru it.

anyway, about DQ IX. pretty good game. the sage owns hard uut, i also had doubts abt the game also.Am i blind or is there no Casino in IX and how about monster teams? the ending of IX was total rubbish. although there is some really awesome equipment in IX. dam you get gotha's robes from hand of the heavenly bride and Solo's (changed to edricks or something like that in IX) armor, sword blahblah blah. And thats all from Dragon Warrior 1. a few VIII items too.

quite a mouthful, but ill jot down some nice DQs.
Dragon Quest VIII {8} was definitely the best for me.great gameplay, awesome story line, the BEST music and a great experience. awesome game for the ps2. this game includes monster teams which is awesome.

Hand of the heavenly bride. which is DQ V (5).
awesome game,a great story, great gameplay, also has monster teams. must get for ds.

Realm of Reverie. DQ VI (6) for the SNES and has a jap remake for the ds. an english version should come out soon.
6 was a very nice game, i havnt gone to finishing it but im enjoying this game very much..

Chapters of the Chosen. DQ IV (4) awesome game. its pretty long O.o" and confusing at times.. must have for NES and DS.
(ds is the way better version soo..) its a must get as well..

and rocket slime is pretty cool too. enjoyable and a humorous story.thing i enjoyed about this game was the monster tank battles. u get get monster teams for the tank battles soo.. :p

Dragon Warrior Monsters and DWM2 was pretty cool too. thats for gbc tho. an emulator would help u get there razz .

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker was ok for the Ds. good gameplay but had the worst storyline out of all the DQs i have just pointed out.
crap story but has some fun bits in the game and you might find some times in the game where its just total rubbish.

Dragon Warrior 1,2,3.. i dont really care about them...im still doing 6. probably after that id do 7.

Yeah the start of VII is a tad slow. I haven't finished the game yet (not even off the first disc) Once the class system came into play it started confusing me a bit. But I really like the idea of the game (going back in time and helping nations that have fallen to the Demon Lord, which would appear to be all of them, except the small island that the game starts on).
