He was in a coma, and looking for his sister in his coma dreamstate. His mind comes up with a bunch of weird stuff and then as he gets closer to the end, his sister, presumably is speaking to him (as the bird), guiding him back to life, pleading with him to wake up, and then he does.

Cool game.

I got into the basement, waited like 5 minutes and the floor opened. Now I'm in the next room and I dunno what to do. But now the story is ruined, so I won.

You have to find the switches. That part confused me a lot too. In the one room you have to go back to hit a switch.
