what exactly does it do?
PostPosted: Sun Feb 06, 2005 12:48 am

Its a site where you can post and share your art, and look at and comment on other people's art. You get your own page, which is pretty cool, and its fun to get comments from other people. 3nodding My DA page is linked in my sig.

Not to bash DA, but I like Sheezyart better. It's not as laggy... And I think I get more attention on my page there than I could at DA. And the pages are REALLY customizable. So, I like it. That's just my opinion.

Speaking of DeviantArt, I watched the counter of current deviations roll over 10 million the other day.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Sheezyart lately, I think I'm going to try it out.

What if you dont want it to be clickable? [I.e., you dont want anyone to be able to steal it.]
PostPosted: Tue Feb 08, 2005 5:43 pm

You can't as far as I know. But its easy enough to get around those 'no clicky' things anyway, if you really want to.

There was a tutorial on DA recently about how to watermark your work, which won't actually stop someone from claiming your work is theres, but does make it very very easy to prove that it isn't.

SA and DA . . . both have their good and bad points.

DA -- Much bigger, more artists, larger community, etc.
Also, individuals don't get much attention on the front page (unless you are mega-popular), frequent read-only modes, only the "very best" get publicity, etc.

SA -- Smaller, each person gets a little more time on the front page before their submition is replaced with another, more attention for individual artists
Also, less artists, slower moving forums, has a bad rep with all the porn incidents (from the time they decided to ban that stuff), etc.

I update on both, because I think they're about equal. smile @SA @DA
The only difference is, I usually update my SA page a little faster (because I have less messages to check there). blaugh

I really dislike Deviant Art because it is so overcrowded now. A year ago it was already brimming on having to great of a population. There's no point in posting your art because if you post it in a popular category it will be swallowed quickly by all the other people posting, but if you post it in some small, obscure category, nobody ever bothers to look there. I'm worried that Gaia's art arena will soon become the same way.
