In preparation for this, his parents bought a new house that was nearby a good academy. On the way there, they stopped at a garage sale and bought Sei a teddy bear. It was raggedy and old, and held onto a strange book, which no one seemed to be able to remove.
On their first night in the new house, a mentally deranged man infiltrated the house and killed Sei's parents, and was going after him next. Sei fled in terror into his room, and tripped, feeling that the end was near. As the man approached, suddenly the teddy bear came to life and defended Sei fiercely, fending off the man, who proceeded to run away. After these events transpired, people thought that the boy was possessed by a demon after hearing rumors of the teddy bear coming to life. With no one else there for him other than the bear, which he named Kuma, Sei wanders around the city, running from anyone who might have seen him.
