Let me see here. What do you know, The Fool right from the get go. That's a bit unusual. The fool as a character is just starting out, full of possibilities but with no experience to guide him, and already is heading towards a cliff. You might want to watch out for that. Luckily he is followed by his faithful dog, and while the helpfulness of the pet is in question at least he is a companion, and the Fool has all he needs for now in his pack.

After the Fool ... is ... well darn. I hate the bloody Wheel of Fortune. Yes, for a great deal of the time we control our own fates, and yes I realize that this is odd coming from someone doing a reading like this. But sometimes luck and chance, good or bad, intervene. The wheel is about chance and change. What is worrisome is the question of whether it is carrying you up to the sky or whether you are about to be crushed beneath the very same wheel. Either way, your actions and choices don't really matter leading up to the change.

Following this is ... know what? You're really screwed. The Tower following the Wheel is hardly ever a good sign. You can see here, what should be a sturdy stone tower crumbling from the force of a lightening bolt. Here we see the destruction of a previously held belief or idea. And it isn't exactly gentle. And there the viewer stands, surrounded by what is left of what he thought was true. The upside is that he now has plenty of material with which to build something new though. That is if he wasn't crushed.

Next is ... the High Priestess. A beautiful lady crowned by moonlight with the scrolls of knowledge in her hands and a screen behind her. She is calm and knows more than any other creature in creation, and a good sight more than she will ever tell. Now the question is whether she will choose to give you the information you wish to know or keep it hidden, and whether you will leave with the information you need. You best hope you do the way this is going.

Now we have Strength. Pay attention here. There is the lion, wild and fearless and really doesn't need any more explanation. But notice that he is subdued by the gentle maiden. Strength isn't all about bluster and the physical. You need to be strong both mentally and emotionally. Be strong in soul and spirit and all of the physical will bow down to you. This is what you really need to remember.

And here ... is the Devil. At first glance the Devil shows you all of the worldly things and desires that you crave. But he only shows them to you. While this does enslave some people, they do it to themselves and honestly could slip free at any time. After a closer look you can see that he is really Pan, showing you all of your desires and what you most want. And how would you get anywhere without them? It is a delicate balance. Don't give into every little impulse you have, but keep in mind your inspiration and your passion.

Finally we have ... Death. Well, things are looking up. Everyone fears Death. They fear an end, good or bad. But you have to end one step to start the next. This is the card of not only death but rebirth. The end and the beginning. In order to move on something will have to end. And then you get the chance to start something new.

Well, there it is. I'm not going to tell you what it all means, mostly because I don't really know myself. These things tend to only become apparent whilst in the midst of it all. Still, it is important to keep all of this in mind. Sometimes remembering the right thing at the right time makes all the difference.

The World

We live in Alem, both the country and capital of the same name. What a bright shining beacon of knowledge and justice. A couple of generations ago, when the Great War between all the countries finished, there was really nothing much of those countries left. And then two soldiers rose up and created Alem. No one really knows what side of the war they were on, or if they were even on the same side, or where they originally came from, but no one really cares at this point. Regis and Donal were strong and charismatic, and many followed them. It was because of this that the new kingdom of Alem grew up out of the ruins while some other long established countries still haven't fully recovered.

It was agreed between the two that Regis and his descendants would be the "Kings" and handle the large scale day to day ruling of the country, taking care of taxes and laws and foreign relations. Meanwhile Donal and his progeny based themselves in the capital, passing down the Title of "Guardian". He took care of making sure that the laws were obeyed and that the people were kept safe, along with making sure the country didn't fall into the same beliefs and practices that started the Great War.

Now the great grandsons of the two founding leaders share the rulership of the country. Regis IV is the king and he he is highly thought of and respected by all the people. Donal IV on the other hand is beloved, and is the leader of the spirit of Alem. He makes sure criminals are captured and people are safe. Even moreso than his grandfather, he has tried to make sure that the practice of magic is abolished from the kingdom, the use of which some blame the escalation of the Great War on. Alem isn't quite perfect, but it is undoubtedly the most advanced of the Kingdoms and on the surface the most peaceful.

Still, beneath the bright light of Alem, in the shadows is Arawn. Despite all attempts to make it otherwise magic users still persist. There are fortune tellers and peddlers who sell magical songs, not to mention those who call up spirits and cast spells. Many dark things that have gone on have been blamed on these people. Nobody likes how subtle and secretive magic is, or how it's practitioners answer to no one. Donal has promised that he will take care of these people, and finally make Alem safe.

But are the magic users really to blame? Yes, they keep to themselves, not even pretending to be anything other than self-interested mercenaries, and magic is something that can never really be understood, but it is hardly like they cast lightening from their hands or reign fire from the sky. And why are so many of the murders supposedly committed by these people done using mundane weapons. Still, that's nothing that most need to worry about. What is important is living day to day life.

The Secret

It isn't the magic users. Alem was built on top of a temple to some uber mumbo jumbo. That is sort of why Regis and Donal chose to build there. Regis I and Donal I meant for the power to remain hidden. Regis didn't even tell his children about it. Donal's true purpose was to protect it. Unfortunately Donal IV wants to open it.

Luckily for us Regis and Donal didn't know how the thing worked, they just knew it could cause a lot of trouble. So now Donal IV is searching for a way to get into the thing and has been for some time. He's somehow managed to convince himself that if he does get in there he can become a god and rule everything. To do so he has been searching out magic users and those descended from certain previous inhabitants of the land. Donal left his scruples behind years ago and God help us if he succeeds in his goals.

Characters

Gaia Name- Diamond-Eyed
Character Name- Nyx Larisa
Gender- female
Age- 25
Appearance- User Image
Dark or Light-Dark
Personality- Quite mellow and sarcastic. Despite all appearances to the contrary, Nyx isn't cold. It is simply that she has no patience for babying people. Not to mention that she has enough problems just dealing with her own life. She is extremely blunt and will never sugar coat things. You can depend on her saying what needs to be said. She is very dependable in general, always doing something to the best of her ability if she has agreed to it. The trick is convincing her in the first place. Quite practical and clever, she's good at keeping things in perspective. Quite implacable and very willful.
Abilities/Talents- Nyx is fairly skilled at using certain fortune telling tools. She is in no way an oracle or can exactly predict the future, but she can ascertain enough to be useful. Only when using her tools though. Her greater talent is in making charms which work very well. She is very skilled at fleeing and grappling, both of which are quite useful. She notices details and is able to tell whenever something is off.
Occupation- Peddler. What she sells isn't exactly legal though, so it's mostly under the table stuff.
Weapons- A few knives which she's "improved", along with some other trinkets.
Bio- Nyx doesn't speak of her family. All she'll say was that she wasn't all that welcome, even before she let her abilities be known. She was too headstrong to simply do what she was told, and too intent on going her own way. She always liked making things, and at first unconsciously enchanted those things. Eventually she met a fortune teller whom she found quite amusing. The man was half charlatan and half thief, though he had some slight ability at reading signs. He showed her how to use tarot cards, bones, and rune stones to at least get some idea of the future. Eventually Nyx was given the choice of making an "advantageous" marriage or be confined until she came to her senses. She chose the third option where she took all her fancy things and ran off, selling them for enough to give her a good start.
Other- Over the years she has gotten to know plenty of people in Arawn and is at least marginally respected as a person who can cause a lot of trouble if she's crossed. She's also known as a good keeper of secrets and for her selective memory loss.

Character Name- Nathaniel Aldwin
Gender- Male
Age- Twenty-three
Appearance- Standing a good six feet and two inches at the top of his rather bulbous head, Nathaniel has never really been small. Meak, however, is another question. The past couple years have trimmed his once round physique to look more like a muscular but agile young man. Sword dancing does that to you, now doesn't it? Secondarily, eyes that can't decide what shade of blue, or even if they want to be blueor gray, or dare we even say green, sit below a heavy brow with long, straight brown hair falling just below the colar bone. He also has a well trimmed bit of facial hair that crawls along his jawline and just below his bottom lip.
Dark or Light- Dark? He has inert magical abilities
Personality- Nathaniel isn't exactly one to shy away from a crowd, but at the same time has never really fit in with everyone. He's always been a bit off cue with the rest of his peers, but that's not a big deal. He's finally making his own way in life and could really care less now that he's out on his own. Brash and brazen, he never backs down from a challenge or a fight either, at least not anymore. Years of former social exile have all but honed his cunning aswell, making him an expert negotiator and orator, as well as a very personable young man.
Abilities/Talents- It could be called luck, more than anything, or charisma. Recently things have just been going his way much more than usual. At the same time, he is quite conserned about it. This isn't the norm, and that's not always a good thing....

Also, he is very skilled with his swords, Fang and Claw, and is making quite a name for himself in underground fighting brackets that put a bit of spare coin in his pocket. It has been a bit difficult, however, to explain the several cuts and scars he's been getting to his herbalism master, Lilliana.
Occupation- Apprentice Herbalist, Duelist
Weapons-
Twin Swords named Fang and Claw
Bio- Growing up was normal, if not slightly traumatizing, to Nathaniel. From an early age he had always been a bit more portly than the rest of the kids around, and for that he was often made fun of. It was a problem for him up until he was about sixteen and finally got fed up with being the laughingstalk of others his age and picked up the hobby of sword dancing. Slowly, his belly began to shrink and form small indentations as he grew out of who he was, keeping with him only his old smile and love of plants. HIs father, a blacksmith, gifted him two swords before the boy left home at the age of twenty to make his way in the capital city of Alem.

At first it wasn't the wisest choice he had ever made, but soon he came to a type of understanding with the city. If making the most honest of livings would be difficult, he didn't mind a bit of dangerous stuff on the side. The first six months in Alem he supported himself on his fights, never killing but always getting to the point where either his superiority was clearly established, or the lack there of was made evident. After that brief stint, however, he came across Lilliana, a kind and middle-aged woman who was looking for just such a young and eager mind to take up her craft of herbalism. The only real issue is that she still doesn't approve of all the scars and cuts, regardless of how he got them. Falling on a shovel indeed!
Other- Though he is best with the application of medical herbs, he has an uncanny knack with blending different ingredaints into salves that could drop a horse with a single drop. Not knowing whether to be proud of concerned, he keeps this secret to himself.
