Fumiko stood there for a moment, before getting angry and balling up her hand into a tiny fist, weak as it was it was still a fist. "Stop it! You've done enough, be gone!" She begun to push her fist into his shoulder, pushing him away, which seemed more like a harsh tap than an actual push. "You're not wanted here! Leave!" Her lips parted harshly, forming wide o's as she spoke, her voice levitating in a high pitch.
"F-Fumiko!"
She had stopped for a moment, keeping her fist on the area of his shoulder. "Ah? Do not worry I'm not scared." Her lips had become tightly pressed, and she had become sure of herself as she said this statement. It was true, she wasn't scared of him, amazed a bit, but not fearful. "It's not that," the woman had stepped forward, pushing between the other girls to stand a foot in front of the group. "He...he has stayed here long enough thanks to you."
Fumiko fell flat a bit, her composure loosing its grip as what her coworker said, began to sink in. "What? What are you saying?"
"She's right!" Another female had pipped up, speaking as she still cowered in the corner. "He even chased after you!" "That's enough," the front woman had sliced her hand in the air, turning a bit to look back and gaining the silence she wanted.
The woman was someone she recognized, the girl who had first talked to her when she was dumped here. She was friendly, strong, and straight-forward. A hearty laugh often erupted from the bottom from her throat, even in a place like this, but this time she wasn't laughing at all, and what Fumiko was hoping to be a cruel joke - wasn't.
"Go away Fumiko, and take your friend with you."
Fumiko stepped forward, her lips twitching frantically as she tried to speak words. "No! It's a misunderstanding! There are no ties between us!" She had begun to walk through the barricaded showroom, but she was stopped again by one single glare from her first friend. "Go away!" The girl in the corner had spoken again, her shrill voice reaching Fumiko even from the far off corner. "But! It's...tell them! It's..." Desperately Fumiko turned and looked back at him, only to turn back to the girls that were cowering before her. "Go away! He's taken some sort of liking to you, just leave!" The tiny one had kept on speaking, murmuring things even after the woman next to her had started trying to calm her.
And Fumiko's first comrade had turned from her, going over to the girls and lifting them up off the floor.
Fumiko stood there deflated, watching them pick each other up and console one another, no one even bothering to speak up for her. She didn't understand why they were asserting themselves that way, everything they said wasn't true at all. There was no connection, it was just their feelings which had become scared and prattled, and their heads weren't sorting it out.
But even as she stood there for a minute or two, the thought hadn't sunken into any of them. So she turned and stepped down off the show room, going over to the entryway and lifting a pair of shoes, only to walk out onto the dirt street.
