Anyone ever been published?

I am an aspiring writer, and I have several books and stories in the works. I'm wondering if anyone in the guild has experience getting published and could be a mentor... I know that what I write is really good, I'm just shy about it and I kinda need someone to hold my hand. XD

Personally, the only thing I've been published in is a yearbook & newspapers (photographs, mainly). However, my friend Alyssa wrote a book and self-published it through www.xlibris.com. Now her book is available through Barnes & Noble's website. You could look into that.

I know it's a somewhat difficult process. If it's what you want to do, though, you've got to put everything into it. I hope this helped -- or if not, I hope someone else comes along and offers some good help.
