A dream... It is night, darkness and silence, lit only by the distant stars and the fireflies. It is enough, just barely, to illuminate the bodies of kimeti scattered in this patch of swampland, some tucked in a hollow between tree roots, some half sunken in the mud or hidden in the grass, all curled up as if sleeping in the clutch but not asleep. Sleep is not silent.

A pair of fireflies, brighter than the rest, emerge from the swamp to dance over the bodies in an intricate waltz. Occasionally they linger over one then spiral away to another, but it is over one, a young filly, they circle for some time in unison. They bobble in the air, rise, then descend sharply, their lights winking out against her closed eyes. The darkness descends again, but only for a moment, before the filly's fluttering eyelids slowly open, blinking back the slumber of death. She raises her head, eyes alit, peering around her. Her mouth opens then closes then opens again and she makes a first tentative noise, a soft, breathy sound, a whicker.

A doe... Softspoken but not shy, Whicker is a warm and gentle soul. She cares about others, hoofkin and creatures alike, more easily than she should, and often bestows on them gentle gestures of affection. A serene sweetheart, she is understanding to a fault. Calm, often passive, and forever the optimist, she is always hesitant, if not completely unwilling, to believe in wrongdoing.

The details Her coloring is very unspecified at the moment, but I'm thinking a base of white cream, marked with brown. Maybe short golden-brown socks that fade smoothly into the base coat on each leg.

Her pet would be a black-footed ferret (only in shades of brown/auburn) colored mongoose named Screech, who is bratty and as loud-mouthed as Whicker is soft-spoken and loves to ride around draped over her shoulders

A dream... A lone green bud sprouts from the mud, rising and unfurling pairs of jagged leaves, culminating with interspersed bursts of tiny white flowers. Fragrant and delicate, it has the power to soothe and heal, but its touch is cold, oh so so cold.

A doe... Mint emerged from her sac cold and alone in one of the most inhospitable areas of the swamp, her mother having cast the sac aside, probably trying to bury the evidence of an unfaithful fling. Her first few weeks were brutally hard, left sightless and alone in a barren world, driven by the urge to survive, eating anything she could find and slowly learning to avoid what made her violently sick. Her life once her eyes opened was similarly harsh, though having her sight made finding food significantly easier. She wandered the borderlands leading this meager existence, always hungry, always in search of more food, and slowly learning the nuances of the plants, what was sustenance, what was toxin, and what was medicine.

It was partly due to her hard-won knowledge, partly due to an innate tenacity to survive, and largely due to the fact that the very inhospitableness of her birthplace left it uninhabited by predators as well as her own kin, that she finally made it in from the outskirts of Matope into the heart of the swamp. There she thrived, finding luxurious plenty in a land that already provided much, and even began expanding her knowledge of medicinal herbs and healing. Yet the effects of her childhood are still evident in her small frame, perpetually haunted with a lean skinniness, and even more so in her personality.

Perfectly capable of fending for herself, Mint is fiercely independent, never asking for favors, even looking down at those who rely on others. Surprisingly, she holds no bitterness for her unknown mother who abandoned her to the wild, instead she takes pride in where she comes from, a pride which colors her view of the kimeti who have grown up surrounded in the plenty she only recently found. She sees them with a touch of disdain, perhaps even a trace of envy, but she understands its not their fault they have never known her hardships and holds her tongue. The result is a cold, detached interaction, and her language, direct and to the point with none of that learned eloquence combined with her brutal honesty and cutthroat black and white view of life serve to complete her frosty demeanor. She judges kin she meets, and she judges hard, but she keeps her opinions to herself unless provoked. When slighted, her vicious tongue reveals itself, as well as her underlying vindictive nature. She does not allow the luxury of looking the other way, she is harsher than that and to be lenient is to sacrifice survival. For every wrong must come recompense, in some way shape or form.

Yet for the few who get to know her beneath the chill, who earn her respect and rare affection, they will find themselves a loyal friend. They will see a doe who, despite her detachment, can often be kind, going out of her way to care for a wounded or sick kimeti even if her ghostly white eyes register not a smidge of caring. They will find someone who is highly moral, believing fiercely in right and wrong and justice, and not afraid to demand it of those she meets. But only the closest of close will realize the odd look in her white eyes when she sees a young kimeti, playing in the grass or feasting on the greenery, is a look of yearning, not just for a childhood she was deprived of, but for children of her own. She'll never admit it, perhaps she doesn't realize the desire herself, but most of all she is inhibited by the fear that, like her own mother once did, she will abandon her children to the worst of the world.

Quick Desc. -
A buck born of a storm, with hair as dark and wild as the sea. He is charming and adventurous, free-spirited and chivalrous, yet prone to fits of black temper which pass as swiftly as they set in.

Character Concept -
Squall was born by the ocean, hatching in the aftermath of a sudden storm that, instead of ending his life, birthed it. Though adventurous and often journeying inland to explore, his heart belongs to the sea, which he carries with him in the seagull feathers and shells he wears in his mane. No matter how far he strays, he always returns to its shores, where he ekes out a sparse existence sacrificing ease of living for the ocean tides. He'd be a tidewalker, if they'd have him.

While he admits it to few, and knows the ache would get him first, he dreams to journey out across the sea and has vague notions of building some sort of floating vessel. He is a competent swimmer, a rather superfluous skill some may disdain him for wasting his time and risking his life learning, but one he enjoys.

Naming Dream -
The ocean's breath whispered tenderly to shore, a gentle caress of salt spray and sea foam, never once betraying the oncoming storm. Not even the gulls expected the ocean to shatter into jagged blades, nor the sky to open up and spear the sand with rain even as the wind screamed through the mangroves and the waves pelted mercilessly against the beach. The land itself trembled at the fury of the sea, a torrential maelstrom, a cataclysm of water and wind, and for a moment the spectre of Death himself was seen dancing doom upon the tide.

But only for an instant. A moment later the skies had cleared, the winds subsided, and all was calm once more.

Character Concept -
Undersized and forever underestimated, Baby was always, well, babied. Diminutive and adorable, she was either coddled, wooed, or overlooked, each a gift and a curse in their own right. While flirtatious and scheming and not ashamed to use her looks or size to get her way, be it into the dunes or out of a task, Baby also prides herself in being able to do things as well as any full sized kin, if not better. She (quite hypocritically) hates being seen as inadequate or looked down upon. Fickle and childish, funloving and thoughtless, but somehow capable beyond her size, she is certainly not just a Pretty Little Thing.

Naming Dream -

A single flower, poking up from the cracked dry earth at the edge of the oasis, a tiny burst of color in the midst of a wasteland.

The black and white theme can manifest however you think best - either in their base coats, or their markings, or their glow/lack thereof, so long as one channels black and the other white. Other than that, take artistic liberty!

If it helps, the description of the House of Black and White's door is: "The left door is weirwood, the right ebony. In the center of the doors is a carved moon face ebony on weirwood, weirwood on ebony."

There they both tend and guard a pool of soft-slaying poison and trade sips from the pool for the bodies of the drinkers. Said bodies are stripped of flesh and skeleton, leaving only the skull and pelt, which can be worn as a second skin, of sorts.
