Safe way to test your limits?

Does anyone know a safe way to really test exactly how much power you have to manipulate in your own personal energy manipulation?
I often feel that a lot of it is my mental state of mind which spurs on what I do but there should also be limits like physical limits right?
Does anyone have a good way of learning where's your limit or how to get to your limits, in a safe way? I've never felt any real limit. That's why I'm wondering. It's out of curiosity.

Is this the type of thing to as a wiccan friend about?
I think a few of my friends are wiccan. Either that or they just like rituals for no apparent reason. haha

I think before we can talk about testing limits we need to be talking about something more specific than "energy manipulation."
