It was a very nice day -- bright and clear and warm. Floating Leaf had wandered from home to enjoy it, and had been finding patches of sunlight as she could -- it was a good day to be warm, she had decided -- but somewhere along the line she bad felt a drop of water. She'd thought maybe she was just crazy at first, but felt a second drop quick after. She looked up and determined that the drops of water must be coming from the trees above, somehow. After the tenth or so drop, however, when she was no longer under the same tree and the time between each drop seemed to be lessening, she began to think that perhaps it was something more than wet tree leaves.

Looking up, Leaf still couldn't see any clouds, but a few big drops of water succeeded in finding her left cheek, her right cheek-bone, her nose, and her left eyebrow before she finally lowered her face and decided to seek shelter. She found a tree with some fairly far-reaching branches and found some shelter beneath the boughs, watching the drops of water fall when she could catch their white streaks against the lush background, ripples rolling over the once-stagnant water at her feet.

"How odd..." she mused quietly to herself. She craned her neck to look out again, a drop landing right atop her nose and startling her back to seek shelter again, leaning against the trunk of the tree now. She had never seen a rain-shower in the sun before... It perhaps wouldn't be all that surprising to someone else, but for her it was an entirely new experience, and she wasn't exactly sure how to react to it. For now, she was watching the startling circumstance, and trying to figure out (from beneath the branches and leaves) where exactly the raindrops were coming from...

The sun shower had caught Thoushalt by surprise as he ventured aimlessly through the swamp with his mongoose, Not. At the first drop of rain, the little creature let out an unhappy squeak and leapt to the ground to hide from the water in the shadow of Thou's body. "Wet!" the mongoose whined, nipping at one of the buck's fluff-covered ankles. "Stop!"

Thoushalt stopped in his tracks and looked down at the little creature, his eyebrows raised. "It's just a sun shower, Not," he chided gently, smiling. "In fact, it's quite pleasant...warm." Closing his eyes, Thou raised his face to the falling rain, enjoying the feeling of the droplets sliding across his fur.

When Thoushalt and Not stopped in the rain, Floating Leaf was only a few feet away. She took notice of them when she heard footsteps and a small skitter as Not found shelter from the rain beneath his master. She watched, head forward with intrigue, as the kimeti almost ignored the droplets, and then lifted his face to enjoy them. He seemed so... content. She was a bit surprised that he wasn't as perplexed as she was.

"I... Isn't that cold?" She hadn't quite realized she'd said it out loud, but there it was. She shrunk back against the tree, half-hiding from her own comment and the kimeti it was aimed at.

Thou's eyes snapped open suddenly at the question and he looked around, perplexed. "N...no. It's quite warm, actually, the sun..." he stumbled over his words a little, hoping whoever had spoken had not seen him conversing with the little mongoose at his feet. The many times he had been made fun of for thinking he could talk to animals had made the buck wary.

He turned as he spoke, casting around for the speaker. After a moment he saw the doe, her pale greens blending almost perfectly into the leaves around her. She seemed just as startled as he was. Slipping into the gentlemanly facade that helped him conquer his own nerves, Thoushalt took a slow step towards the doe, smiling gently.

User Image"It's quite alright, Miss, I apologize for startling you. My name is Thoushalt, and this," he nodded down to the mongoose that was still hiding from the rain at his feet, "is Not."

User ImageA pang of guilt ran through Leaf’s chest as she realized she had surprised the buck and promptly shrunk into the shadows. Nonetheless, it wasn’t enough to spur her forward to make herself readily known. She wondered at his comment – she had been too startled by the water to really notice if it was warm. She had been enjoying the sun, though, and he was making her somewhat curious.

Finally, he spotted her, and she was almost relieved. She felt slightly less bad about sinking back, realizing that she might have blended with the trees even in the sunlight on such a day. She gave a shy smile as he stepped towards her, but at his comment, she flushed with guilt and gave a surprised shake of her head.

“No, no! I’m sorry that I startled you!” She looked around herself and admitted, “And then I hid, so you must have been more surprised to not see the someone speaking…” She smiled remembering his introduction, and quietly nodded her head, “Hello.” She turned to the mongoose he’d introduced, “Hello, Not.” She looked back at him and realized that it was her turn. The doe shifted on her hooves, “I am Floating Leaf.” A smile crossed her face and she glanced aside, shy once more.
