If you've ever seen the OVAs, that's almost what he can do.

In my opinion anyway.
Cause that's what it looks like to me.

Particularly when he bites someone to gain their knowledge.
Or turns into a morphing hellhound to eat someone whole.
In one scene, he even absorbed the blood pool on the floor, through his feet.
