The ice across the great river cracked under her hooves. In the center, the spring meltwater flowed fast, great icebergs pushed along in its current. A few more steps and she would be in the midst of it, the freezing cold water bucking and roiling and pulling her downstream. She paused for a moment, and then leapt into the tumult.

It was only much later, when she crawled out of the bank on the other side of the river, dripping and cold, that she realized she had found her name.
