He turned to the next student who answered. "Fire is a destructive force, certainly. Both painful and cruel, a mindless natural phenomenon. It is certainly a great asset to your kind. It took a long time for humans to tame the flames, to use them for their own purposes; and yet they never have achieved complete control."
The next student to respond caught him a little offguard. He tilted his head quizzically, before narrowing his eyes and reading the tiny, bright screen. "I see, are you unwell? I hope it is not...communicable."
To the rest of the class, he read her response aloud. "Fear of drowning, fear of being led astray. By beauty. An interesting, and complex fear. Fear of drowning is another basic primordial fear, but while once it was great beasts that caused this," he nodded to Poke, "now it comes in the innocuous form of a lovely maiden."
He clicked the projector off, darkening the room for a moment before he rolled up the screen and allowed the bright moonlight to filter back into the room.
"We are not here to discuss FEAR, however, but origins. Your origins. It is important to understand where you came from, so that you might best use your natural assets."
He waved a hand; the lights grew brighter. Mr. Darcy took a seat behind his desk, pulling out a small pair of reading glasses, a pen, and a binder.
"To accomplish this end, we will perform a little exercise. I want you each to go around the room, and take turns speaking - we will create from our...assemblage... of citizens, our own 'creation myth'. The goal isn't to form a good story, but to examine our roots. Consider the exercise as an interesting glimpse into your fellow student's history, family, or practices."
He paused, glancing up from his notes.
"Please, restrain yourselves to no more than a sentence at a time; and consider what you will say. And don't be shy- if you don't speak up, I have no qualms about skipping over you. Participation is essential to class credit, scarelings."
He readied his pen; it seemed as if he'd be recording whatever they said.
"I will begin for you. In the mirror, man saw darkness; and through the darkness there was -"

IF YOU HAVE NOT JOINED THE CLASS, YOU CAN STILL JOIN NOW! JUST ACT AS IF THEY'VE BEEN THERE ALL ALONG! smile
The goal here is to CREATE A CREATION MYTH! This will take place in the form of a round robin story, where you write a few sentences and the next person gets to write a few sentences and so on. Try to pay attention to what the person before you said, so that it flows somewhat, but ALSO try to incorporate your student's personal fear!
You can do this in a number of ways - and feel free to npc the 'man' in the story. You can describe physical things, like scenery, or events, or actions, or even animals. You can also describe emotions or intangible things; or even describe weather effects. Just try to consider what has already been said, and add on in such a way that it leaves room for others to respond!
