She knows not what the gentle hum implies - she is young, and therefore foolish. She slowly approaches the grove from which the sound emanates, curiosity bubbling under her skin. With no warning, the guards attack, stinging her velvet ears and piercing her delicate nose. She cries out, but there is no one to help her. Pain lashes through her small body, and, in panic, she starts to run. She is blinded by the swarm, and soon the sheer amount of their venom will slow and stop her heart. But she stumbles and falls - straight into a shallow pond. She seeks shelter and reprieve in it's cooling embrace, and the water grants her wish like a caring mother. The warriors buzz indignantly, hovering over the rippling surface, but they dare not follow their prey into the pond. They wait, for soon the foal must come up for air, and she is in the middle of their hive's territory - there is nowhere for the small thing to go.

But an alarm sounds, and the sentries fly away with anger - a new intruder has been located, and this one is much bigger than the first.

The little foal raises her swollen head, and searches for an escape. She sees instead a large hollow in a huge trunk, and carefully peeks inside. There are no fearsome fighters here - instead, there is a yellow substance which smells like flowers. She leans in for a taste and -
