Kindof, but not really, modern genetics and phylogenology have both kind of excluded Skunks from the general mustelid family

"Skunks had been classified as a subfamily within the Mustelidae, or "weasel family", which includes ferrets, weasels, otters, badgers, stoats, and wolverines. However, recent genetic evidence suggests that skunks are not as closely related to the mustelids as previously thought and they are now classified in their own family"

Sorry....sage is your resident animal nerd (It was my degree after all XD).

Read http://www.dragoo.org/mephitidae.html for more about the claudistical change.

Thats all good, the vast majority of the world arent animal nerds like me...I often have to correct mythformations...Like I cant believe the "Daddylong leg spiders are one of the most poisonous spiders out there they just cant bite you" Myth still exists. They are harmless....Proof = if you eat something with poison inside you get the poison...If someone paid me $5 I would have no problem consuming one.

Animal (and plant) categorising changes pretty quickly, so many animals have been overhauled in the past 20 years because of genetic testing (I.e back in the days when morphology was the only way to figure it out so many animals got wrongly grouped togather), Genetic testing allows us to see that two different Identical looking species may not be related at all, but only look similar due to covergant evolutionary reasons. (Aka similar selection pressures)
